Great German food.
In this Dusseldorf street, you have so many German restaurants however majority offer chips with burger, which doesn't feel German. This restaurant seem to serve German dishes.
I tried the Rheinischer dish which is a Rhenish marinated beef in raisin sauce served red cabbage, potato dumplin, sliced almond. This cost 18.50 euro and the potion was very good, it was filling I couldn't finish it. I took the rest home as takeaway. Taste was ok, first bite of the beef was very good then later became stale.
Others ordered the Ofenfrische dish which is the pork leg on top of red cabbage and mashed potato. This cost 18.90 euro and in terms of taste it was not that great. It looked great on the dish and in picture though.
I was surprised the dish came just within 10mins of ordering. We ordered some drinks and they came within 2mins. I ordered the malt which tasted good, it tasted like Malta guinness but with less sugar. However the glass size was slightly smaller than other soft drink. The apple juice with sparkling water tasted diluted and not too sweet.
The drinks must be placed on the saucer paper as the server served us which was cool 👍
The restaurant aesthetic were very nice it felt like 90s Germany. No music was played in the background, just noise of so many Germans. Walls are decorated with paintings and emblems.
The restaurant was clean, toilet was clean and had large availabilities of toilets. There was a lady sitting at the entrance, I think she might be the cleaner I don't know, but I see some restaurant customers tipping her. I don't know if it is mandatory to tip her but I didn't and her expression was not good.
The waiter was nice and quick in serving, however when it was time to pay, his mood changed. I think he expected a tip, but his patience went thin when we were trying to calculate the cost of our order and he said "I don't have all day" 😑.
All in all, it was a good restaurant. I recommend because they serve German food and not burgers and chips "german" restaurants out there. But I would not...
Read moreAVOID! Terrible TERRIBLE service and mediocre food. Probably hands down the worst service I've ever experienced.
We waited 80 minutes for our food. No one checked or asked if we needed more drinks nor explain the wait. Now, we were a big group but over an hour is unacceptable. When it finally arrived, the food itself was generously portioned but was over cooked and dry, and generally rather unexciting.
But the service! More accurate to call it the opposite of service, the disservice was horrendous. When the bill came, very glad we checked because they overcharged by adding an extra imaginary mains that we challenged and he reluctantly conceded.
One of the waiters knocked my head in the temple with his elbow when he was clearing the table - no apology. A second waiter dropped food on me with no apology just a mutter - I jumped up and wiped off the red picked cabbage from my black trousers. I accepted these as a 2 unpleasant but separate innocent accidents. I was wrong. The next time the second server came up from behind to clear plates I was ready and moved well away from the table but then, this is the unbelievable part, he swerved as he lifted the plates so that they nearly touched my cheek then bumped my head with the underside of the plates. Awful and vicious and completely unnecessary.
Napoleon may have frequented this restaurant back in the day, but I do not recommend it. Do not go here unless you like being ignored while waiting for boring food and...
Read moreWould not recommend this restaurant for four reasons:
Waiting: Even though we reserved, we had to wait outside for 15 minutes before we could get seated at a table (that was empty the whole time). We also had to wait before we got served and ask for it proactively ourselves. The food took over an hour and was served to us separately over the duration of 10 minutes for our group of 8. (To be fair: we were here on a Saturday evening around Christmas time). Price: way overpriced. 30 euros for a basic schnitzel you could get at a snackbar. Service: Besides taking long, the staff wasn’t too friendly. Also, they forgot to serve our side salads and brought these 15 minutes after we finished our meal. Quality: the food was mediocre at best.
Overall, an experience I would not recommend to anyone. It might be better when times are less busy, but around Christmas I would highly recommend to reserve somewhere else, many other...
