KÖ Shopping Mall — Hotel in Dusseldorf

Very bad treatment from one the mall employees. We visited the Kö Galerie in Düsseldorf for the first time and experienced a highly unpleasant incident that I would like to share. During our visit, we came across a piano and politely asked one of the staff members if my daughter could play a well-known piece. The staff member granted permission and even encouraged her to play. My daughter started playing, and passersby were delighted—it was a beautiful moment that was abruptly disrupted by a very rude supervisor. This woman aggressively interrupted my daughter's playing, even though my daughter remained polite. When I explained that we had been given permission, she dismissed it in a disrespectful tone, insisting she alone decided what was allowed. It became clear that her actions were motivated not by a supposed piano-playing rule, but by prejudice. My daughter was deeply hurt, feeling publicly humiliated and questioning why she was treated this way despite doing nothing wrong. My younger children, who witnessed the scene, were frightened and even feared the police might be called due to her aggressive behavior. It was a traumatic experience for our entire family. This woman’s behavior was not only disrespectful but also discriminatory, leaving us with the impression that we were less welcome due to our background. Such racist and demeaning actions are unacceptable, especially when directed at children who are German citizens, born and raised in this country. Decent Spot for a Bit of Shopping. The KÖ Mall, sitting right there on Düsseldorf's famous Königsallee, is pretty much what you'd expect: a solid, upscale shopping center. It's clean, well-lit, and definitely feels a bit more "fancy" than your average mall, but it's not going to blow your socks off. I'd peg it at a comfortable 3 out of 5 stars. You'll find all the usual suspects here if you're into high-end brands – think designer clothes, jewelry, and some nice home goods. The layout is easy enough to figure out, so you won't get lost, and everything looks pretty polished. If you're specifically looking for those kinds of shops, you'll definitely find them. It's a decent place to duck into if the weather's bad or you just want to stroll around somewhere a bit more refined than the street. There are a few cafes and restaurants if you need a break, and they're perfectly fine for a coffee or a bite. Honestly, it's a good mall for what it is. Considered one of Germany’s best shopping areas, with good reason. You have all the top global brands on the actual Kö, but then there are malls on and off the Kö (eg, Shadowarkade) that have great budget options like Primark. Would recommend Saturn for tech/electronics, great selection and knowledgeable staff. The area also has a lovely seasonal Christmas market with Glühwein and an ice skating rink.
