Casita Mexicana — Restaurant in Dusseldorf

I have been here many times, rather ordered the food at the Irish pub next door. I have always found the food okay and a bit expensive for the overall taste and quality but it works due to the lack of other Mexican restaurants in Düsseldorf in the area.

I was a bit surprised today though when the waitress openly asked me if I wanted to tip the staff, while billing. Considering that the downstairs seating was super cold, the door kept open mostly, the room not warm enough, the prices high for the portion and the good taste but honestly I've had better Mexican food in Germany, this felt aggressive and needless.

To be fair, we were going to tip in cash but paid the bill via card. But you cannot expect to be tipped all the time. It should be okay to not force the customer to feel guilty for not tipping, if they don't want to.

I may not be visiting...

To begin with the positive: the food was very good, there isn't a large choice, but it is just fine, it was very tasty. We ate 2 quesadillas per person, the asada beef meet was very delicious, as well as the habanero sauce, and the gambas is also a hood choice. The ambiance: the Mexican decorations are not bad, all in all you feel like in Mexican tavern, BUT they have some problem with the music..it was too loud, mostly nothing to do with the Mexican theme, and there was some technical issue with their player too. The negative: the staff is not welcoming at all, but even worst when you are leaving, and nobody cares that you said goodbye or something. Our waiter was a hard worker guy, with some communication issues, but fine...

We made a last minute reservation for a big group, manager responded and adapted perfectly! He was funny, professional and we are all looking forward going there.

Reason for visiting the place is recommendation of friends who travelled in Mexico for longer period of time, with big interest in food and local drinks.

Casita Mexicana had adapted to the Mexican standards, providing a various menu for everyone to enjoy with not loosing the original flavours. As said, staff is fabulous and look forward writing a review after we tasted the food, but all friends (6 individually), highly recommended the place!
