Last year my sister and I stayed at this hotel and had a really disturbing experience during the check out process. We didn’t forget about it until now, so I decided to write a review.
My sister and I each had one room, both booked with my credit card. We had different flights to catch the next morning, so we had to check out during different times. I checked out at night and let the person working at reception know that any costs associated with both rooms should please be charged on my business card and not on my sister’s card, even though we are checking out separately. He assured me it wouldn’t be an issue.
Fast forward to my sister’s check out, they are asking her for her card. No problem - she’s confused because I told her it was already covered - but she handed the reception her card.
Here comes the part that was super weird. They took my sister’s card and it got declined. My sister, of course slightly distressed about it, doesn’t know what the issue is. Of course there is enough money on the card to cover the room’s costs.
The reception tries again, again declined. People in line behind my sister waiting. The manager saying audibly and for everyone in line to hear “Your card is not working”, “How are you going to pay for the room?” My sister, not knowing what to do, calls me. I wanted to speak to the manager, she didn’t want to talk to me and instead handed me over to the person working at the reception. The receptionist had asked the manager while on the phone with me “The customer would like to talk to you.” Her response - “I don’t need to talk to him.” So I’m speaking with the receptionist, we’re trying to figure out what the issue is. He was a bit more easy to talk to than the manager.
Turns out the issue was that they had pre-approved the costs for both rooms on MY CARD, so THEIR SYSTEM couldn’t charge my sister’s card.
The hotel’s team put my sister in an extremely uncomfortable situation, because THEY made an internal mistake. The manager? Never cared to apologize.
For a 5 star hotel this was by far the most ridiculously worst service I have ever seen. My sister and I travel a lot and this was really unique.
Because of this, I’m not sure if I’ll ever want to stay...

Over the weekend of March 15–16, we once again had the pleasure of enjoying a wonderful stay at the Steigenberger Icon Parkhotel Düsseldorf. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by a member of the valet service, Mr. Elkatmi (I hope I’m spelling his name correctly). Check-in, handled by Mr. Qasem, was smooth, courteous, and professional. Every time we visit this hotel, it truly feels like coming home.
The location is simply perfect. We stayed in Room 115, which offered a beautiful view of the beginning of the Königsallee. Both housekeeping and room service were excellent. The Jones Restaurant remains a highlight; the service is outstanding, no request is too much, and even our dog was warmly welcomed. Check-out was equally pleasant, with genuine attention given to a personal farewell; something we deeply value.
With that same warm feeling, we returned for another stay over the weekend of April 5–6. Once again, we were received with the utmost hospitality. The valet staff were exceptionally polite and handled our vehicle with great care. During both check-in and check-out, we were again assisted by Mr. Qasem, whose presence added to the sense of familiarity and comfort.
This time, we stayed in Room 322, located on the opera side of the hotel; a quieter setting that we can definitely recommend. We opted for in-room breakfast, which was a delightful change and something we plan to do more often in the future. What continues to impress us with every visit is the dedication of the staff: they go above and beyond to ensure an exceptional experience, and they succeed time and time again.
Düsseldorf remains one of our favorite cities, and the Steigenberger Icon Parkhotel is, without a doubt, a world-class hotel. We already look forward to our next visit. A heartfelt thank you to the entire team for your outstanding service; it truly feels like...
Read moreI can't speak highly enough about my experience at this fantastic hotel. Although my room was basic and not anything special, the staff made this an incredible stay and all the difference.
It all began with my arrival when the bellhop greeted me with a smile and happily helped with my luggage.
At the front desk, Valerie Kolada was full of positive energy and super helpful. She welcomed me with such enthusiasm and was extremely helpful my entire stay.
Veena was a superstar. She took great care of me the first two days at the restaurant Jones for lunch and also took care of me at breakfast. She was incredibly helpful and really set a fantastic tone for my stay here. Veena is incredibly good at what she does.
Keeping on the topic of staff and outstanding service.....I can't say enough about Hilal, Juli and Despina, who also took care of me at breakfast and lunch. They were sweet, personable, service oriented and very professional. They made my day every morning!
As for the evening staff at Joenes...Klaus Henze and Gadaf Asanoviq had me and my colleagues covered. They paid attention to every detail to ensure we had a great dining experience and also took very good care of us even to the very late hours of the evening.
Finally, housekeeping was wonderful as well. Claude was super friendly and did a great job!
The food at Jones was delicious. The Weiner Schnitzel, White Asparagus and fries was my team's go-to, and it didn't disappoint. Also. The breakfast restaurant was totally awesome. Great breads, fresh juices, cold cuts, cheeses, cereals, champagne, eggs, bacon, lox, sausage, etc....
The dining experience outside was fantastic with great views of the city and the inside was beautiful as well. You really couldn't go wrong.
I will come back. I look forward to it. Thank you to all the staff for bringing your best sel forward every day to ensure that my stay was amazing. You are the best...
