Stepping into Hyuga, is like entering a family restaurant in Kyoto or Tokyo, the colours, the old-school orders and receipts on paper. The place has that vibe and atmosphere. No wonder there is a queue forming outside the restaurant including excited Japanese aunties and couples even before the restaurant opens.
I had their Hyuga Gozen, a limited set lunch that they do sometimes. It is a set meal with a little bit of everything from tempura, Japanese-style pickles, appetizers and sashimi. All these for 20 EUR (31 SGD). In Singapore, the price is comparable or cheaper to a gozen in a Tomi Sushi or Yayoi, but the items at Hyuga are much better quality and more delicious.
The tsukune was yummy, the sashimi was fresh and the tempura was done right. Rice was spot on too. This is another place I will recommend if you want a Japanese meal with a nice atmosphere without the bling bling or fusion twists. It is worth queueing and do bring cash. They do not accept...
Read moreA friend recommended the restaurant so we were really excited. We rushed before the closing time to be able to be served. Unfortunately, they don’t allow dogs which I totally understand. Though, they made it really inconvenient for us: They told us they don’t to take out, since we made the travel there and It was late we decided that It wasn’t hot anymore so it was okay to eat inside by the window and just attach our dog right in front of us: They were annoyed we wanted to seat by the window. I asked for a water to give my dog and they refused. It was late and we we’re all hungry so we decided to stay. The food is good but it was really mean that for some reason they decided to make it so difficult for us to eat there. In another situation, I would have just gone to another restaurant. The food is good but the service was definitely not...
Read moreHad a great dinner here. Started out with the standard quality sashimi platter, which was nice but not exceptional. It got me curious as there were two more quality levels above this one. I decided to take another platter of the highest quality, “Omakase-Sashimi”. The difference was mind blowing! I didn’t expect the sashimi to be this good. The otoro sashimi (tuna belly) stood out for me. It was literally melting in your mouth and had great rich flavors. The rest of the platter was of high quality and very delicious as well. The quality difference with the standard platter is definitely noticeable and worth the premium price. All in all the restaurant is cozy with a good atmosphere and friendly staff. Prices are reasonable. You should really book before coming though as I saw a lot of people walking in get turned away because the...
