Worst indian we’ve been to - ever.
Visiting Frankfurt from the U.K. and had spotted Curry Club from searching the local area. Social media pages and website looked great so we booked a table. Got to the restaurant and our table hadn’t been made when we said we’d reserved. Not a problem, they got us seated pretty promptly with menus. Decor looked great too.
We noticed straight away the food menu was a couple of euros more than the menu we saw online. Not a deal breaker as menus change but it was noticeable.
Once we ordered, they asked us a few times if we wanted anything else from the menu - eg we ordered coca cola and they asked if we wanted wine/beer, same with extra sides. This didn’t bother us to start off with but it was persistent throughout our meal to the point we had 4 people ask us if we wanted anything else during our starters alone.
We got railway mutton chops and street style pakoras and they were both shockingly salty. The mutton was mostly bones and you couldn’t tell which of the pakoras were aubergine, onion or potato, everything just tasted salty and over cooked beyond belief.
It then took them 40 mins to clear our starter plates - asking again if we wanted any alcohol too. We politely declined and asked for our mains. The restaurant was only about 1/3 full too so the long waits were frustrating.
Mains were the worst indian food we’ve ever had. The Butter Chicken masala tasted like tomato soup and the chicken itself was dry and tasteless. The Kashmiri Lamb Stew was also noticeably watered down (it was like soup, not sauce) and flavourless. I’ve never had such a floppy mess of a curry before. The lamb itself was so dry and tasted exactly the same as the starter lamb. The naan had been cremated and the rice was dry. We were so, so disappointed - we love indian food and this just let us down so much. For €25-€30 a main, these should’ve been exceptional dishes but I’ve had kebabs after nights out that have tasted better and fresher.
It then took another 20 mins for them to clear our plates. We asked for the bill and the waiter went and served other tables before sending another waiter over to ask us over and over again if we wanted free shots. It was incredibly awkward when we so obviously just wanted to leave in the politest way. We declined, got the bill 10 mins later with more offers of shots and eventually got to pay and leave.
Never have we felt so uncomfortable with the older waiter gentlemen so obviously trying to upsell at every opportunity. It’s awkward, uncomfortable and unwelcoming. Hats off to the young lady waitress who seemed to be working a hundred times harder than everyone else.
Disappointing from start to finish. Don’t waste...
Read moreWe were excited to try this place after reading the great reviews but you will be disappointed if you are looking for something unique for the price you pay! We are talking about around €150 for 2 persons with 2 round of drinks, entrées, mains and a dessert. We love indian food and have tried so many restaurants around the world. So we were looking forward to this experience. Maybe their standards dropped with Covid or maybe we had high expectations.
Lets talk about what went wrong : Waiter was a polite elderly gentleman but pretty confused. He kept forgetting us. Tables that came after us were served before us. Same sauce different cut of meat was used for entrée and main (check my pictures, the first one is of the lamb entrée which looks nothing like the pictures. The presentation is not fine dining at all! Second is of the mains with same sauce used for the lamb dish) Chicken entrée was super dry and felt microwaved. The dishes were average except for the lamb. Nothing that you can't find in a normal Indian restaurant. Had to send back 1 dish as there was an issue and clearly that didn't sit well with the chef. The replacement dish came back as a much smaller portion on a smaller plate with no presentation. Still wanted to salvage the meal with dessert because how can you go wrong with that! We got 2 extremely hot gulab jamuns(clearly microwaved) swimming in a melted ice cream pool which was just sad at this point. Don't let the complimentary sparkly shots at the end fool you. We are told that they are custom made for them by the waiter but found the same bottle online for less than €20. We were told that they are working with some famous chefs in India on the menu etc but I think just having a very good chef with experience in fine dining would make such a difference!
To be fair, I would like to highlight some of the strenghts as well: -The deco is lovely. -Table setting is nicely done with beautiful tableware. -Portions are generous for mains. -Meat was tender
With the right staff, service and a bit of effort on the food, this place has potential for...
Read moreThe experience began with a shocker. The prices on the menu card inside the restaurant, was about double the price displayed on the menu outside. Although we considered exiting and going to another restaurant, since we were tired and hungry we chose to stay on.
Food wasn't impressive and doesn't warrant the price - Sweet corn chicken soup was simply loaded with chicken stock cubes and nothing special. Very small portion for 10 euros. Gunpowder potato, a side dish - this was potato sauted, extremely spicy (like the name indicates) and had a mild sweet tinge. The potatos had no flavor by themselves and again nothing special about the dish. Butter naan was tasty. Chicken Tikka masala - tasted nothing like chicken Tikka masala. A very small portion for 23 euros... unimpressive. Butter chicken - Tasted nothing like butter chicken, loaded with cream. Again the portion doesn't justify its cost of 24 euros.
Surprisingly, the cost of these dishes is around 13 euros during lunch time. It is this price that is displayed on the menu outside the restaurant.
10 euros for 200ml portion of wine and 4.5 euros for 300 ml beer sounds unreasonable to me; the place is not upbeat to warrant such prices.
The crew gave loud attention to the guests that seemed very personal. I guess that's their strategy to cover up the high prices. They offered more rice and chutneys, which is a nice gesture but again didn't rationalize the pricing, to me.
A meal that usually costs me around 65 euros is another nice Indian restaurant that I often visit, cost me 100 euros here.
If my review sounds very personal, please try out their food and see if this review then makes sense.
Neither am I going back nor recommend this restaurant, as there are way better Indian dishes is many many restaurants in and...
