The sad kitten illustrates how I felt after going to Maincafé today
Up until 2 hours ago, I liked the place (and especially its wine cake!), since it has a nice location and relaxed atmosphere. And then the mean blond lady who works there broke my heart. Here’s my sad story:
Last time I went to Maincafé, I had wine cake which I really liked. I told my husband about it and we’ve been wanting to grab a piece together ever since. We live in a different city, so going to Frankfurt just for a cake seemed unreasonable; but after several months of continuous reminders from my side that “hey, this cake was delicious, we should go get some!”, we finally just decided to drive to Frankfurt and try our luck.
After a long drive, nerve-wrecking search of a parking spot (downtown Frankfurt on a Saturday – need I say more?), a long walk and queuing, it’s finally our time to order! I ask the blond lady at the counter if they have wine cake. She tells me they do, but it’s in the kitchen and she’s alone at the counter and can’t go to bring it outside. I told her we came extra from a different city for this cake, that I was a fan and would really, really appreciate getting some, but she just repeated she had to stay at the front.
All right, I think to myself, I’ll go inside and ask someone else from the staff if they could please bring it out for her. I do that and the girl working inside takes out the cake and is just about to cut 2 pieces for us, when the mean blond lady intervenes, telling me it was “audacious” of me to not accept her “NO” and that if she tells me I’m not getting any cake, then I’m not. I was speechless – this made absolutely no sense to me. If you don’t want to sell the cake, why do you tell me you have it? If you say you just need someone to bring it out, then why do you prevent them from doing so? Most importantly – how can you be so rude to a customer who just really nicely told you they loved your product and drove from a different city to buy it?
Honestly, I have no idea what got to this woman and why on earth someone with such attitude and manners is allowed to work in service.
So we left – hungry, sad and endlessly disappointed. The mean blond lady destroyed Maincafé and the cake for us forever. Not going back and not recommending it to anyone who likes to be treated with any...

She then looks at us and goes ‘I know you Americans use plastic for everything but you’re in Germany now.’ Which I would have understood her sassy frustration had we not been paying with our card AND cash at SEVERAL different bars/restaurants across Germany for the last 4 days. Anyways, we go outside to drink our beers and about 3 minutes into sitting out here, gorgeous area btw, we have a staff that approaches us and tells us that we have to throw away our water bottle because it’s not theirs. I look to the guy next to us who has the same water bottle as us and points to him. She says something to him and German, the speak a few words and she tells me again ‘sorry you’ll need to get rid of you water or put it away’ the German guy next to us told us that all she said was ‘hello, how is everything’ and he responded ‘I’m fine but running low on beer’ and they laughed. He said she said nothing about his water but pretended to me that she was talking to him about it. After about 5 minutes after that we had the guy that was in the bar come ask us to leave. At the same time we walked passed another American couple who just left after entering the place due to the girl at the register being rude to them as well. The young staff here are awful towards people. I will never return here. First time I’ve ever actually felt discriminated against in my...

Apparently sitting in the 30°C sunlight at an unoccupied table when only 9 out of 20 Tables were occupied was unacceptable.
No one wanted to sit there in the direct noonday sun. I wasn't bothering anyone. No one needed the table. And you know... I don't argue when someone who commands you to leave. She could have asked if I intended to buy something... I walked over to my wife and we decided to get an applewine upstairs at the food cart instead.
I understand that you don't want to just have people sitting there taking up space... But it costs 10-30s to ask if someone is going to buy something.
We won't come back. We will not attempt to be customers a second time. Politeness is free... Rudeness...
