From my understanding this is North Chinese cuisine. Interesting experience, a bit of a self service experience where the waiter threw a pad and pencil down on the table with no instructions. Very little guidance or direction, I assumed this was a local place but definitely didn't feel welcome, the whole idea was to write your own order down. I was with someone of Chinese origin, however I still experienced what I would call a hostile environment. I later learned from my friend who was with me that it is very normal. This place does not understand the concept of vegetarianism, so if you're vegetarian I would seriously avoid this place unless you wish to eat contaminated food. I ordered a vegetarian noodle soup, checking with the waiter that this was vegetarian, who confirmed it was. On arrival it had an egg in the soup and was made in a chicken stock broth 😳. When the waiter was questioned he said it is vegetarian as there is no meat in it, and explained the chicken is not meat... The BBQ mushrooms I ordered came on a tray with frog legs, which I did not even order... Overall this is a small family run business and clearly very authentic so I wasn't that put off, as well as being incredibly hungry as I had not eaten all day. It did however feel like I was eating in their front room, and I did feel like a hindrance until it came to payment time. I can't recommend this restaurant based on my experience, the flavour of the food was average and they totally got the...
Read moreI went there at a slow hour, and I saw only one Chinese family of four sitting and eating, so I figured I'll get a food quickly. The woman at the counter spoke to me a few sentences in Chinese (not just "nee hao"), just because I'm an Asian (I think). I told her sorry, I don't speak Chinese, and she looked taken aback by it. (Really?? You're in Frankfurt and you expect all the Asian people coming in your place to be Chinese??) I ordered Nudeln mit Rindfleisch (7 EURs which is somewhat overpriced for what it is since I know I can get the same thing in China for less than 2 EURs.) I waited for good 20min while the woman kept serving more and more food to the Chinese family at the other table. I couldn't wait any longer, so I told them I had to leave, and the woman working there didn't seem bothered by it at all, and even seemed to have expected me to eventually leave without food. It looks like one of those places where, if you're an Asian but not a Chinese, you get treated poorly (I've been to other Chinese places in Frankfurt like this). Very sad, but they exist. At least, I didn't end up wasting my 7 EURs on an...
Read moreGrilled skewers and dumplings. What’s not to love?
The prices are good. The restaurant cleanliness and setting is similar to a street food stall (I don’t mean this in a bad way - expect some food residue on your table). The owner is from China and she performs the role of server and chef. So you may have to wait a bit. She tends to speak Mandarin to anyone that looks East Asian (we shared a laugh after my broken mandarin skills were revealed) but I heard her converse in German to some other customers. I’m pretty sure she speaks some English as well.
Anyway, I had the chicken heart skewers along with some boiled dumplings. The chicken hearts were garlicky and spicy - I liked them. The dumplings should fit your expectations. It’s hard to have...
