I spent a few days in Freigburg, and it was very lovely overall. I stumbled upon this restaurant as a recommendation from the local guitar shop owner, and so I came back for dinner two out of the four days, because despite a not so pleasant (rude) small interaction with a waitress on the first day, I managed to get in and was received by one of the most charismatic, kind, friendly and attentive waiters I have ever come across. I didn't get his name, but I know he speaks many languages and I complimented his service quality, and the second day he even called me 'maestro' which, yes, even though it might be used as a general term for addressing people, it's very flattering for a Spanish speaker. Anyway, he recommended the schnitzel (breaded pork chop) the first night, and it was to die for, and accompanied with the house beer, on a very hot day and after a day of physical activities, I was in heaven. The second day another excellent waiter served me and recommended the ribs, and so I ordered it along with, of course, more house beer. As a dessert I ordered the forest cake, and though not to my taste, I appreciated the craft and flavours behind it. Overall 5 stars, but I give 4 stars for service, for that one rude interaction, as for the people who took my food order both days were excellent. The ambience is very pleasant and very interesting, as they have two big tanks on display, where I assume the beer is brewed. The menu caters for meat and non-near eaters, and it's available in English. I discovered that generally the queue that forms outside the restaurant is for people wanting to sit outside, obviously in hot days/season, so you can skip it by requesting to sit downstairs where there was plenty of tables available on both days....
Read moreWe had a very disappointing experience last Thursday, 21st of March 2024. We arrived at around 5:15 PM and sat in an area where there was no sign indicating it was reserved for 6:00 PM. After we sat down and placed our order, a staff member came and placed a reserved sign on our table. When we arrived, there was no sign and the restaurant was nearly empty the whole time while we were there. There was not people waiting or anything like that.
At 5:37 PM, a waitress informed us that we had to pay and leave even tho we still had 23 minutes to sit until 06:00 PM. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, the waitress responded rudely, saying it was not her problem and that we had to leave. I have never felt so uncomfortable in a restaurant before. The waitress who interacted with us had dark skin. As we were leaving, we expressed our disappointment with how we were treated, but instead of addressing our concerns, the staff laughed and said mockingly goodbye. It's disappointing that the staff would treat customers this way.I will not be returning to this restaurant, and I will share my experience with others. I guess it was because we were the only...
Read moreThis review is for tourists, like ourselves. The pork knuckle was not seasoned, not even a little bit. It for sure had the classic crispy skin, but it was not even salted, let alone being cooked in a beer. It was a plain piece of pork roasted in an oven with nothing at all. We had a fine time, and the sausages and ham were "fine," as in they were basic and cooked by someone who might identify as a chef, but our meal was absolutely not worth the money we paid versus going anywhere that is competent in cooking these meals. I would note that pork knuckle, or Schweinshaxe, is not a specialty of Freiburg, but really something to be enjoyed in the Frankfurt area. Overall I'm pretty sure that anyone who visits this place understands that it is a "tourist trap," but just don't expect the food to be...
