We wanted a light lunch after a walking tour of Hamburg and our guide recommended this place. It's on a street with LOTS of options of places to eat so if you swing by and it doesn't look like it's for you, you undoubtedly will find a place on the same street that is.
We don't speak any German and their English was very limited so it took a bit longer for us to get situated and order. We did the best we could and thanks to the Google Translate app we got what we wanted. (And the staff their was super accommodating as we tried to navigate German!)
There is a lot to choose from for vegetarians in both the sweet and savory realms. I had a Spinach Feta Tort. It was small, but the perfect size for the amount of food I typically eat at lunch...and I tried my first Franzbrötchen...the pastry that Hamburg is famous for – kind of a dense croissant with layers of sticky caramel-like cinnamon and butter binding it all together. No English menu but the person behind the counter can speak English and she is friendly. The tapa dish consists of prosciutto, cured sausage, cheese, olives and bread. Very basic but can’t complain because of the price. There are other breakfast combo on the menu and the portions are huge. If you are looking for amazing pastel de nata and some coffee, I highly...
Read moreThis is a sad imitation of a Portuguese café. In average cafes, like this one, but in Portugal, you'll get a delicious pastel de nata for 0,50 -1€. But not here! I wouldn't mind paying 2,50 for one, I mean it's Germany right, but honestly such a disappointment. The pastel de nata wasn't fresh AT ALL, not crispy rather gummy and stale. I had a better and cheaper one in a no name kiosk at Dresden Hbf... They wouldn't even dare sell this to you for such price in Portugal, that I...
