The food is okeyish but the service? OMG!!! We were a party of 4. We ordered the sea bass, the dorado and the big plate of shellfish for 2 The shellfish could have been better but it’s ok. After the meal I asked the waiter to bring a chocolate mousse, an expresso and the bill. Then it was a total disaster: the first thing to arrive was the bill, already with the expresso and the chocolate mousse mentioned. Then came the waiter telling me that the pin machine was broken so they could only accept cash. I told him that the expresso and the mousse was still missing. After a while the expresso arrived and I told another waiter that the mousse was still missing. He check the bill to see if it was there. After a few minutes an extremely rude waiter came to me asking after all how many mousses I wanted because I asked it to another waiter. He was so rude and aggressive that I though he would punch us. I just told him “ I just want my chocolate mousse” and he replied, in a very aggressive manner “if you want one why did you asked also to the other guy”? The only think I did was telling him that the mousse was still missing. One of my friends was so scared that she just apologized to calm the guy down. He was loud, rude and aggressive. A lot of people were looking at our table wondering what was going on... What a terrible experience!! Most of the time a rude waiter can change with some training: this is not the lack of training..is lack of manners!!! Manage to spoil the whole meal and the rest of the afternoon to all of all.. AVOID this place!! For me will be a...
Translation for International English speakers: We went to D. Jose on Saturday and hated it. The best thing that happened was that even though it was full, we were able to get a table right away. Unfortunately, the food was a real catastrophe, for instance the meal came after 30 minutes, the bread was old, stale and tasted like glue and the fish plate was luke-warm and tasted non-descriptive and the vegetables were like those you can get from a can. This is not how one wants to enjoy a nice, Portuguese meal. I would not recommend anyone eating there again. What a pity!
On a good note, down the street there is another Portuguese Restaurant, Porto and they can cook. Their food is fresh, delicious and the service is prompt, outstanding and good. The prices are also better. I really do not...
Read moreD. Jose is a charming Portuguese restaurant in Hamburg that delivers well-executed and authentic cuisine. The food was definitely the highlight of the experience—flavorful, fresh, and clearly made with care. I would rate the food itself a solid 4 out of 5. The menu offers a nice variety of traditional Portuguese dishes that are both satisfying and well-presented.
Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the food. There was a noticeable delay in even the most basic orders—waiting 15 minutes for a bottle of water, for instance, set the tone for the rest of the service experience. Staff seemed inattentive and somewhat disorganized, which detracted from the overall enjoyment of the meal.
Despite the slow service, the restaurant has potential, and the food makes it worth a visit, especially if you’re in the mood for Portuguese cuisine. With some improvements in service and attentiveness, this place could easily become a go-to...
