My companion and I had washed ashore into the bays of Hamburg completely innocent of the food culture on these shores. All I knew was that fish and their crusty associates were on the menu. Impressed by the rather luscious images dripping off the Google Maps album, we headed out for a jaunty dinner, fresh from our Holiday Inn welcome, seeking the creamy-castanet delights of fresh mussels.

What greeted us was a cosy, nautical affair: old, salty timber stood before and above us, illuminated by golden bulbs and lamps shaded with baskets that spoke of older times and modest catches. It was an easy ambience.

The waiters compounded this feeling of ease, greeting us with both German and English, and making us feel a mite... exclusive. This was but the précis for what was to develop into a truly virtuous display of waiter-ship.

We started with a tasting platter. Nicely presented, the food was however less handsome in the mouth than on the eye. Chewy squid chunks wrapped in a stale taco shell; Leys chips drizzled with sour cream and chives; undercooked and unidentified crab (?) cakes that wrestled against the teeth. The main -- our much-fantasised mussels -- was similarly overcooked, with a bisque that was barely more than Gemüsebruhe and cubed veg. Disappointing from stern to aft, sadly.

But the service... bravo to that man. What a waiter. Helming the whole restaurant seemingly single-handedly, we all fell under the spell of this twirling captain. One could have taken him to be under the spell of his own special sauces, but we gave him the benefit of the doubt, and attributed his merry yo-ho-ness to simple good cheer. If you play along, you might even get a sip of pirate's fire at the end...

Unsere Hochzeitsfeier im Catch of the Day - einfach unvergesslich! Wir durften im Juni unsere Hochzeit mit 40 Personen im Catch of the Day feiern und wir sind noch immer überwältigt von der Herzlichkeit, Professionalität und Liebe zum Detail, mit der das gesamte Team der Alten Liebe unsere Feier begleitet hat.

Schon beim ersten Gespräch mit Ulf haben wir uns super aufgehoben gefühlt. Seine entspannte Art und die tollen Ideen (z. B. die Barkassenfahrt vom Anleger Maritimes Museum, der direkt um die Ecke liegt - was für ein Highlight!) haben uns sofort begeistert. Auch die Auswahl des sommerlichen BBQs war genau das Richtige. Sogar individuelle Wünsche wie „kein Schweinefleisch“ wurden ganz selbstverständlich berücksichtigt.

Als dann der Trauungstermin feststand, ging es mit Leonie in die Detailplanung und was sollen wir sagen: Ich habe beruflich schon viele Events geplant, aber selten so eine empathische, zuverlässige und lösungsorientierte Kommunikation erlebt. Leonie war einfach ein Geschenk! Ich hatte viele sehr konkrete Deko-Wünsche, es war aufwendig und detailreich, aber sie hat alles mit einer beeindruckenden Leichtigkeit aufgenommen und sofort in unser Konzept integriert. Ob Tortenanlieferung oder DJ-Koordination - alles lief reibungslos und auf den Punkt.

Am Vortag lernten wir dann Alex kennen, der die Serviceleitung übernommen hat. Auch er war so ruhig, herzlich und aufmerksam – und genau das hat sich am Hochzeitstag fortgesetzt: Die Umsetzung der Deko war unglaublich liebevoll (obwohl sie wirklich kleinteilig war!), das Serviceteam durchweg aufmerksam, herzlich und professionell. Jeder Gast hatte immer ein Getränk in der Hand und wir das sichere Gefühl, dass wir einfach nur genießen dürfen.

Das BBQ-Buffet war ein weiteres Highlight. Der Koch stand mit Herzblut am Grill und hat die Speisen nicht nur liebevoll zubereitet, sondern auch mit Begeisterung erklärt. Unsere Gäste waren so happy. Alles war frisch, lecker und perfekt auf den Abend abgestimmt.

Und: Die Location selbst ist einfach ein Traum! Direkt in der Hamburger Hafencity, in einem alten Speicher am Fleet gelegen, mit einer wunderschönen Terrasse, die bei bestem Sonnenschein für unsere Gäste ein absolutes Highlight war. Die Atmosphäre war maritim, urban und gleichzeitig gemütlich – genau wie wir es uns gewünscht hatten.

Kurz gesagt: Wir haben selten einen so vollumfänglichen, gleichzeitig herzlichen und entspannten Service erlebt. Danke an Ulf, Leonie, Alex und das gesamte Team! Ihr habt unsere Hochzeit zu etwas ganz Besonderem gemacht. ❤️

Non existent service. Attempted to order food at the bar area and was told I could order a drink but that I'd have to be served at my table for food - that's fine. Drink came straight over from bar with bar lady telling me she's send the waitress over. Waited 15 mins and no waitress. I returned to bar area and introduced myself to bar lady and a waitress. Have now been waiting 30 minutes and am only still here so my phone can charge. To be fair, people that arrived after me were attended to and served their food pretty quickly so I wonder what the issue. Possibly that I look 'different' from most people in here lol. A shame as this is my last day in Hamburg and it's been great...
