Hilariously most of the bad reviews are German...but that's not surprising, even my most cultured friends fail to understand food doesn't cost €5 an entree. This is casual fine dining, so heads up €8-30 plus a dish, which is still nothing considering fair wages, interior design and quality ingredients. I'd happily pay more. The current menu is short (it's not a China Restaurant people, the number's don't go from 1 to 400) but the entrees include between 5 and 7 options and most are gluten free and vegetarian friendly. I didn't examine it's entirety in great deal, however the meat and vegetarian mains appeared numerous. The wine list could have done with more by the bottle options but the Cab Sav by the glass that was recommended by the waiter was excellent. We experienced the exact opposite about the service, extremely friendly and attentive. When you have managed and are the children of two parents whom also own a fine dining (in NRW, Germany) you can really see how much they are doing right and the dedication they have for their concept and beliefs. Many restaurants in Germany, lack that outside the realms of what they already know and the heavy reliance on fat for flavour. The spices and aromatic techniques used yesterday evening served masterfully to enhance each of the dishes and harmonise the combinations..it wasn't a palete overload or lacking flavour at all. Very well done to the chef. I acknowledge that I am an extremely privileged person to have sampled restaurants all over the world, and this makes my top five for Germany in my 3 years here. Keep it up, support small local business and share the world with yours. Only feedback would be to implement a flag warning into the register so tables with allergies have flags on the order receipts or some kind of sticker/stamp you attach manually. Many POS systems can implement this feature nowadays, could have helped my food allergy being missed. But you managed it like professionals and I admire...
Read morePoor experience. The restaurant it self is well made and the history around the restaurant as well. But there was very little, if any, service. It was pretty clear, that the two guys blogging about the food right next to us had the full attention from the waiters, as well as the people full of friends/family from the owners. We were seated and the menucard was only available in German (since the owners travel so much, one should think they were able to take the time and translate it to english), and the waiter was not able to translate the menu - which of course is okay, but at least she could have asked a colleague to help translate it. Since we did not understand what the appetizers consisted of, we decided to have a maincourse to share and some water (32 degrees that day, 25/7/2018) and a beer to start with. After 40 minutes we watched our neighbors having four dishes and the newly arrived table with friends having both wine and appetizers. After 50 minutes we had finished our drinks, and no one asked us if we would like some more. Should I mention, that the neighbor table was around 25-30 cm away from us...
After 60 minutes I decided to walk up to the bar and express the long waiting time to the waiters in the bar, and said that we needed to be somewhere in 45 minutes. Also I cleared out that we no longer had anything in our glasses. That seemed to help, and we finally got our food after waiting 65 minutes. The very same main course had been served to our neighbor table 15 min. prior to us - that really dont make any sense to me. Food was VERY pricy compared to the standard, it was very mediocre and no "wow!" experience to it at all. Oh, and the waiters still didn't offer any new drinks...
The restaurant was kind enough to offer us a free desert, but since I had already stressed that we needed to be somewhere else, that seemed kind of ignorant to offer a dessert instead of offering the drinks for free at least. We declined the dessert and...
Read moreAs a native South American I was disappointed with the menu here. I had high expectations due to the restaurant reviews, but for me it was clear on the plates the lack of passion put into the food (something that is very present in Latin American cuisine).
The menu is almost all about corn and even though we use the ingredient a lot in American countries, I found it very obvious and in a “comfort zone” to have it in almost every plate.
The seasoning was the most disappointing aspect for me, cause I barely felt the use of spices and was constantly looking for taste in the plates. It’s pointless to use a cricket to make an “impression” that doesn’t bring any taste to the plate as well. And on the opposite side, there was a ceviche that was so salty and acid that we could barely finish.
Don’t want to end without pointing out the service also, that in any moment checked if we were satisfied with the food or if we needed something in between the courses. And we are talking about a fine dining here, so service should be also a highly attention point.
All of the topics were addressed to the responsible person at the evening in the restaurant and didn’t seem to be treated with a big importance, I would say.
A real shame, for the price paid, there are quite a few better restaurants in Hamburg. This is...
