RATS INSIDE THE RESTAURANT and several tables mentioned it to the staff. The staff said it is normal to have rats inside and outside, and that they are not in the kitchen. They could have offered remediation like closing the door or helping uneasy patrons like me move to a different table, but they offered no solution and told us it is normal.
Four sightings in the span of one hour. The rats are small. I saw the moment one climbed under the door to enter into the restaurant. I gasped. Sorry to other patrons. Where I come from, having rats running around visibly inside the restaurant is not acceptable or hygienic. I don’t think it is normal for Hamburg, but the restaurant told us so. I don’t believe it but you can make your own judgement.
The attitude from the staff was very matter of fact; not apologetic at all. We asked politely to change our table to somewhere more inside. Staff said fine but did not move to help us move anything which I thought was a bit odd and rude but maybe this is German standard ?
Anyway, if you mind having the rats inside the restaurant like we did, please avoid this place. If you think it is acceptable, the decor is nice and the food is good. I had the fish soup. Waited 30 min for our dishes. My companion lost her appetite after the sightings so couldn’t tell me much about her burger. Looked nice though, it...

This establishment is the definition of ineffectual pretension.
We chose this restaurant because of the good reviews and proximity to our hotel. The location on a canal did not disappoint.
The interior, however, falls victim to some new age nonsense, which I guess is belied by the name of the restaurant: Beautiful Life.
Unfortunately, there is nothing "schönes" therein, only servers who take orders and bring food when they get around to it (in fact, I tried to take a picture of the servers lounging at the bar for an extended period of time, but I do not like taking shots of patrons...)
We were never asked if we needed more to drink, despite being empty the entire time, and it seemed our man-bunned server simply gave up about a third of the way through because another female server did the rest while he lounged around the bar.
I do not fault her, as she was working at least half the restaurant herself, but the fact is that I had to get up and ask for our check to leave in exchange for remaining thirsty.
The currywurst was good, but the schnitzel was mediocre. Nothing we ordered was equal to the prices.
We left, feeling overcharged, thirsty and somehow...
Read moreLong waiting time, mediocre food and rude staff! We got there at 7pm and ordered approximately at 7.30pm. Our waitress took almost ten minutes only to take our orders, because she would constantly get things wrong, not understand us or leave people out (Yes, we have a native german with us, so it's not about any language barrier). My mother accidentally ordered smth wrong and asked our waitress to change it, not even a minute after she typed it into her 'ordering' device, and got told off (my mom didn't want to start a scene, so she just kept the wrong food). Our appetizers were brought half an hour later (which was long but still fine with us), then we had to wait a solid 65 minutes for our main dish. It's now 9.20pm and am finished with my food. We're ten people and almost nobody finished their food, mostly because we're not hungry anymore after the long waiting time. The food was good, but not what I expected regarding the high prices. My mothers salad was oddly sweet and the sauce was chunky and weird. You could've gotten better or similar food for much cheaper almost anywhere else, especially here in Hamburg. We're currently trying to pay, but every waitress seems to be ignoring us. All in all I would not recommend...
