This place looks like a hole in the wall, as you go down a step and into a cellar. Which is fitting for a brewery. It had a very nice atmosphere, with barrel tables, low light, wooden beams in the ceiling.
I wish the food menu was a bit longer, there weren't too many interesting options. But we were all four happy with a pork knuckle, 2 ordered a half knuckle and they could just barely finish it. And the other 2 had a whole knuckle, we couldn't even finish half of it. Luckily we could take it home in a doggy bag.
The server spoke good English and was helpful with explaining the dish and help us choose a beer that was for our taste.
3 of us got a very dark beer that we were very pleased with. Sweet and dense with flavor.
After we "finish" our food we did have to wait a long time to get a hold of the waitress, but it was starting to get busy. (we arrived around 6.45pm on a Friday, and we could still get a table).
You can also order a 10 liter barrel of beer which looks really fun, but a bit two much for 4 people who weren't planning on sticking around there for hours). It would be fun for a big crowd.

We went for dinner and, as many reviews say, food and specially beer was quite good. Also the place is something different and really nice. That would be a normal review of, at least, four stars. However, there were two major problems that decided me for a bad review. Firstly, we asked the waiter if we had ordered enough food (or was too much). He showed little interest and told us that... "yeah, it was OK" but actually two more people could have eaten with the food we ordered. Besides, we ordered extra kartofelsalat (100 extra gr) when the main dish already had A LOT of kartofelsalat. There was so much kartofelsalat that it didn't make any sense to order more (even less a tiny plate with 100 gr). A place like this one cannot avoid to recommend a proper quantity of food. At least in order to not waste it. Secondly, we asked for a couple jars of water, which they kindly served us. Our surprise came when we checked that they cost 9 EUR EACH ONE!! That it is absolutely unacceptable in any restaurant, and in any place in Europe. ABSOLUTELY EMBARRASSING.
For sure we are tourists, but we...
Read moreInterior had a very traditional German feel as well as the food and beer being very nice. The prices of food and drink weren’t that reasonable. I would’ve been happy to pay the prices of the food and drink but due to the appalling service we received it really didn’t seem worth it.
Yes, some of the servers were nice and friendly, but the particular individual who served us and settled up our bill was extremely rude, patronising and sarcastic. When I was settling up our bill he asked for a tip which I declined as I didn’t feel the service that he provided sufficed a tip, to which this server made further rude, sarcastic and patronising comments towards us.
It felt due to me and my girlfriend not being able to speak German fluently, being young and British he treated us so awfully. It was a real shame as if it wasn’t for this specific server we had I would’ve rated this place much higher and be inclined to visit again when I’m next in Hamburg.
I don’t recommend visiting at all if you’re a non-fluent German speaker or even fluent German speaker as you’ll be spoken to and...
