Quintessence:
Foodwise Ramen Station Takumi deserves five stars, but in my opinion they are overpriced. Moreover the restaurant is in the basement and the room temperature can heat up quite a bit. Their bathroom is tiny!
In detail:
My friend and I went to Ramen Station Takumi on a Saturday evening at 6:30 pm ish. When we arrived all of the outdoor tables were occupied so we went inside and were greeted in Japanese. We were then immediately led to our table. So there was no queue at all, but except for maybe two all other tables were occupied.
We ordered the Tori no Karaage (deep fried chicken with mayonnaise) as an entree, the Nouko Ramen (ramen noodles with a special broth, Ajitama [half an egg], fried ground chicken, leek julienne, chives, slices of onion, baby pak choi, nori leaf) and the Miso Ramen (ramen noodles, miso soup, chicken teriyaki, leek julienne, chives, sliced of red onion, menma [pickled bamboo], baby pak choi, nori leaf) as main course.
All dishes were really delicious, the soup was good and unlike at other places it's not as thick in its texture. The ingredients were all fresh, and had a good quality. The noodles had a good texture. My Ajitama (egg) was a little overcooked though. In my opinion all tbe dishes that we ordered that evening were kind of expensive. The Tori no Karaage for example were only five little pieces of meat, which means you pay a little more than one Euro for one little piece of meat. The Nouko Ramen was served with like a little more than a teaspoon of fried chicken and the Miso Ramen was served with three very small pieces of teriyaki chicken.
The restaurant itself was nice and clean, but nothing fancy, which absolutely okay. That Saturday though it was really hot outside, and I felt like it was a bit overheated inside, since the restaurant is in the basement. The waitresses and waiters were all very friendly and polite. They seem to welcome everybody in Japanese.
One point no one has mentioned so far is their bathroom. It's literally tiny. I do not recommend using their bathroom/toilet if...
Read moreAuthentic Japanese Ramen!!! If you want good Ramen, don't hassle with other IN Locations, just go to Takumis in Altona. In my time in Japan, I ate a lot of Ramen, and by a lot I mean, all the time. At least one meal a day during my stay was a bowl of Ramen. Upon entering you are greeted with nice "Irasshaimase" and then let to a table. It's always busy, people come and go and sometimes you have to wait a few minutes outside. If that happens your Name comes onto a List. After you get seated, they present you their menu. On it is everything your heart desires. You can have the standard Ramen (Miso, Shoyu & Shio) as well as two House Flavours. Then there are various sides like Gyoza or Takoyaki. Different starters like Edamame or Kimchi are available as well. My company for the evening and I ordered some Ramen, Gyoza and the Takoyaki and had some Kirin Beer. Everything tasted just wonderful and the portion is more than sufficient. After a few more beers we payed and left. Again best Ramen in Town, forget those local Hipster Spots, just go here and taste some authentic delightful...
Read moreHave been there about 3-4 times. Not bad, but there is plenty space for development (e.g. the places at the front window are crying for a renewal and fresh painting). The place is small and at peaks quite full. The feeling is quite Japanese, stuff is young and authentic Japanese (not all though). They are used to be quite busy but that's no different from how this goes in Japan. The ramen soups taste close to what I've experienced in Japan while I lived there for a year (except they do not serve them with that yummi pork meat that is common in Japan, that's very 'Schade') and it is probably the type, that they pre-make in bowls and before serving they pure the hot soy or miso soup on top, therefore 1 more star less. I wish it would be that freshly, in front of your eyes made one with those yummi eggs I used to eat in Japan, but again, it's not bad at all, it brings back all those nice memories I've spent in that magical country, and that's good enough for a try until I find an even more close one to what I...
