Service was excellent, staff very friendly. I don't usually give three stars, so this review needs to be a little longer. I ordered grilled cheese with honey as starter and the francesinha (chef's recommendation) as main course. The starter was fine, nothing out of the ordinary, but the francesinha was swimming in a pool of a greasy liquid and smothered in a low quality kind of cheddar cheese. It didn't taste bad (that amount of fat would make any dish taste delicious), but I could not finish half the plate. I was feeling full and heavy, trying to fish another bite from the greasy pool was making me nauseous and I stopped. I pointed that the dish was way too greasy and the waiter just blamed the starter, saying it was a bad combination. We were showered by good conversation and even some free drinks, but I left the experience underwhelmed, heavy and...
Read moreWe had booked a table for 7:30, and specifically called because we got lost and would be late. When we arrived 5 minutes late, we were made to wait 20 minutes and had to tell those occupying the table that we had booked it. Staff were not prepared to do this. Food was mixed. Gambas in ajillo were good, garlic soup wasn't. Tuna steak was good, pulpo was awful as soaked in cheap oil. It seems the owners prefer to serve regulars PS: interesting to see those responses. We were there at 7:35, and are told here that reservations are only held for 10 minutes. On Friday we were told that the other guests had not cleared, and that its not their policy to ask anyone to leave. I guess people xan make their own judgement. Had the food been as brilliant as all these reviews say we wouldn't have been as...
Read moreA truly fantastic taste of Portugal right by the pier. We got the mixed seafood platter and a chorizo starter grilled right at the table. The platter featured salmon, tuna, squid, octopus, swordfish, and large prawns, perfect for sharing. Everything was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The salad that came with it was also fantastic. Vinho verde white wine was a perfect pairing and a unique, more bitter type of wine with unripe grapes.
No English menu but the server was still able to help and make suggestions. The place was empty for our early reservation at 17:30, but was nearly full by 18:30, so reservations are worth it. Seating for about 35 inside and another 20 outside, though inside is recommend thanks to the beautiful decor.
A highlight of Hamburg's Portugiesenviertel...
