If you like cats. Then this is the place for you. Cats wander around without a care in the world. It’s clear they’re the stars of the show. As a result, don’t expect them to come running to you. They may require a bribe, which the staff will happily supply. If you do manage to get close. The back of the menu has a guide to the petting/rubbing preferences of each cat. Nothing Is left to chance.
The cafe is vegan. I am a committed carnivore, but what I ate would make me think twice about my current diet. The food was uniformly excellent and the absence of meat was of no concern. The only thing I would mark them down on, was the price of the desserts. The main courses and starters were very reasonable. But the desserts were expensive. Don’t get me wrong. They tasted amazing. But my friend and I decided to share an apple tart, to split the expense.
The staff were very welcoming and efficient. The girl who looked after us spoke excellent English. Which was a blessing, as my German isn’t great.
All in all. It was a lovely place to visit. If you’re stressed and worn out. This is the place to go. The cats and good food will revive you.
We went first thing on a weekday morning and had the place to ourselves. But I believe it’s very popular in the weekends. So a reservation would be a good idea to avoid...
Read moreWe went there a first time friday and it was perfect. Then we went there today again, we booked a table for 2, we were next to the entrance with a lot of come and go next to us. So I asked if it was okay to be at a more comfortable area, she just said "no it's impossible ". So I thought, that, maybe, the other places were booked for larger group but not at all. 2 people arrived 10 min after us had a cosier place without even asking. So it was not the best way to enjoy our meal , with people passing by all the time, an other table really close to ours .. We went to an other katztempel in Leipzig and they right away asked us if we wanted to be in a crowded or calmer area... I don't know, maybe the fact that were are not german makes us less important...
Read moreThe coffee was good but the service and hospitality were so bad that I am not even considering coming here again. We were a group of international students who came here between lectures for lunch, the cafe was empty already and the staff took 10 minutes just to give us a table, 15 more to get our orders. And as a side note we did not even touch or even speak with the cats since they were sleeping and followed the rules. The waitress made eye contact with my German friend a couple of times as she was trying to get their attention to order and ignored as completely, we had to be the "rude" ones and ask to order. Already with limited time, the behavior of the staff ruined our...
