The more causal little brother of the fine dining restaurant Mural, it’s fair to say you would have some expectations as you sit down in the chic modernist interior. And things start off well, the complimentary bread from Julius Bratner and thoughtfully semi melted room temperature butter. But the food afterwards is creative but somewhat misses the spot; ingredient pairings are interesting like fermented leek with Sichuan type peppers with steak that is a tad too chewy. Or things like sunflower ice cream, which whilst creative a flavour, doesn’t really pair all that well with French toast and poached pears. The service also starts out ok but degrades to being downright bad towards the end. Starting out friendly and taking some time to explain the menu but as each dish is served, the accompanying wine comes with the bottle and explanation of tasting notes to just slapping down the wine glass on your table and giving you the name of the wine while looking irritated if you ask questions about it. Oh, and the pacing of the meal is completely off: 20 odd minutes between the starter and main but we waited over 40 minutes to get our dessert. To top it off, the waitress scowls at the end when you leave a less than sufficient tip despite the terrible service. So as much as this place has great potential, it unfortunately doesn’t...
Read moreI made a reservation for Friday evening at this establishment using their online system. The reservation form clearly asked if we wanted "food AND drinks" or "just drinks AT THE BAR", and we selected food and drinks. When we arrived, we were greeted nicely by the service staff who informed us that our table would be free soon and offered us a seat at the bar in the meantime. Unfortunately, we ended up waiting for over an hour at the bar while being constantly pushed to order food and drinks.
When I asked a blonde lady at the bar when our table would be ready, she told us that a reservation doesn't guarantee sitting at a table and that sitting at the bar is actually the preferred option. This was in complete contrast to what we were told by the colleague who greeted us and what the online reservation system communicated. When we brought this up, we were told that "We are a bar, not a restaurant."
I found this attitude and inconsistency in information frustrating, especially given the price point and quality of the establishment. It would be more acceptable if they admitted to double booking tables rather than making lame excuses. Overall, the level of service we experienced was unacceptable and could...
Read moreWe were regular customers from bar Mural, before yesterday evening. The service was very poor: we booked at table for 4, arrived on time, and we were seated at the bar, 4 people in a row! we had to complain for 20 minutes with the service for them to find a solution. They moved so slowly... one of our aperitive has been served 15 minutes after the others.... Then dinner was below the average! we had a Tatar, poorly presented, the meat not so tasty, and the overall dish was terrible lacking delicacy. Our guests had the onglet which was average, in very small portions, and the side accompaniment was almost absent... Only the wine list is still top level we had Pinot noir Marsannay, and Chardonnay white wine. The dessert was disastrous: a ridiculously small piece of French toast in an acid white sauce so called sabayon. We will not come back. Unfortunately, as the place was great a few weeks ago. We don t know what happened but it has...
