Interesting concept but far too expensive for lackluster taste
I love burgers, particularly trying different ones, so the mini-burger tapas at Der kleine Flo seemed like the perfect concept for me. The first shock: one of those mini burgers (and they really are mini) costs five euros. To emphasize how mini they are, my French goat cheese burger consisted of a tiny piece of lettuce (hardly the "salad bouquet" promised on the menu), a slice of apple, and a quarter of a small wheel of cheese, plus some sauce. Five euros. Even more worrying, a 0.33 liter beer is 4.70 euros, more than a 0.5 beer at most other restaurants in Munich.
But okay, I'll gladly accept the outlandish price tag if the food is outlandishly tasty. Sadly, we had to wait for over a half hour before the waitress brought our burgers. Once we finally had our food, I first ate a burger with a mushroom patty, which I enjoyed very much. However, the haloumi patty of my next burger was much too salty. And the chicken patty on my friend's burger was completely overcooked and dry (I tasted it myself). Everything else aside from the patties was really sad and tiny, even for a mini burger. A sad tiny slice of lettuce, a sad tiny piece of mozarella, you get the idea. To summarize the four I tasted myself, one very good burger, one mediocre, and two pretty awful ones.
There were more problems, but those were the most damning ones. I think if you don't mind the high prices and get lucky with your order and the cook, you can have a decent dinner here. More importantly, the cute little burgers look great on Instagram, which I assume is the main reason for the restaurant's success.
At the table next to us, two tourists took lots of photos of their dishes but didn't finish any of them. I think that beautifully describes the dining experience at Der kleine Flo.
On a final note, the waiter told us only one burger comes with tomatoes - because the owner personally doesn't like tomatoes. So much for customer centricity, how...
Read moreReally don’t get what people rave about in this place. The burgers are way smaller than indicated in pics and are really not that special. They were just… ok. We also tried 2 vegan burgers and they were both disgusting. And we’ve had our share of good vegan burgers, so that was not the issue. Was also a bit pricey, considering the size and quality we got, imo.
The annoying table reservation system is really the cherry on top for this place.
Would give 1 1/2 stars just for one of the servers we had that was really nice.
Update after the owner replied: Thanks for commenting. I will clarify a few things that you say you didn’t understand:
I’m surprised that you really think that “sorry the vegan option wasn’t good, try the meat instead” is a serious and legitimate answer 🤦🏼♀️ Guess who usually chooses the vegan option…. VEGANS.
I was happy with one of your servers. She was sweet and helpful. The other guy was rude and unfriendly.
I appreciate the produce is all local and home made, but sorry - 3 burgers don’t make one, not even close. There’s small… and there’s TINY. I think maybe 4 or 5 burgers make 1 regular burger. And for that price - I think it’s too much and not as reasonable as you try to paint it.
Your order system keeps changing the available time slots. In the beginning (3-4 days before we came) we were able to book only until 16:00, and the next day till 17:00 and only on the same day evening slots were available, but only from 20:00 when you guys close at 21:00.
We DID call. Multiple times. On different days and different hours. No one ever picked up.
So before you come to the customer with complaints and gaslighted suggestions (“everyone else seems to love it! Maybe you should have chosen something else 🤡”), you should check if you’re giving the best service and experience as you...
Read moreSo the place has an interesting concept, you get smaller burgers and sides so you can try more in one go. The visible food on the picture did cost us exactly 40€.
Service: It took us a while to order but as soon as we ordered the food got to us very quickly. The staff asked us if everything was to our liking in between and whike paying we where asked for feedback, so I'd say great service.
Food: I ordered 3 random burgers and have to say i did not expect the garlic lover burger to be so heavy on garlic, normally restaurants don't deliver on their advertised intensity. So as some one who uses a good amaount of garlic in his dishes this was still more then i bargained for, so be aware of that, if you order that burger.
The BBQ hot sauce disappointed me, but thats because i dislike the taste of Tabasco and i could taste it immediately as an ingredient in the sauce. The woman working there told me i should've said something and they would've exchanged it for me no problem, which is nice to know for my next visit.
General: All in all my only negatives are subjective, like i didn't like one of the burgers and sauces however since the places concept is to get smaller portions and different stuff to try, this is alright.
The other thing is I did find it a bit pricy but i feel like all the places in Munich are around the same price to performance range right now and it's more due to...
