Our flight was delayed so we arrived at the hotel close to midnight not realizing that there was no staff to meet us and provide us with room keys after 11pm.
Luckily there were people coming back to the hotel who let us in to get instructions on how to check in after 11pm. There’s a sister hotel just around the corner down the alley and were expecting us. After signing paperwork, we received our room keys and headed back to the hotel. I had sent the hotel a note on how confusing this was for us. Especially after a full day of travel and my husband having to walk with a cane.
They were quick to try and fix the problem. Checking their websites, Expedia, etc to make sure late check in info was provided. Our flight was supposed to arrive before 11pm so we had no reason to worry about late check in, but it was delayed.
In any case, the owner and staff recognized and acknowledged our concerns which we totally appreciated. We later had a nice gift of a couple of small bottles of Prosecco waiting for us in our room along with 2 champagne glasses and 2 apples. Aside from that little glitch, the rest of our stay was great!
Free coffee and some pastries in the morning as well as snacks and fruit in the afternoon. They will clean your room when/if you need it. Otherwise, if you need additional toilet paper, Kleenex, fresh towels, etc, just let them know. There’s always someone in the lounge area until 11pm.
We stayed for 4 days. I was still working while visiting Munich so having good wifi was important to me. Had no trouble doing work while at the hotel.
There’s a Hop on Hop off bus just at the corner from the hotel which we used and we’re able to get around for 24 hrs.
The Tram, buses and underground rail are just a short walk away. There’s also the underground shopping when you descend down the stairs to catch the tram/rail which was a nice surprise. Lots of shops and a variety of restaurants down there!
If you want to go to the Marienplatz and Viktualien Markt, they are also within walking distance from the hotel. It’s also one of the stops for the Hop on Hop off city bus tour.
The main central rail station is just a little further down the street but is an easy walk from the hotel.
Overall, this was a great stay for us and we truly appreciated the quick response to our concerns and their kind gesture with the Prosecco and fresh fruit. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to our friends and family who might be looking for a reasonably priced place to stay in Munich that has great amenities and is close...
Read morePros: good air con (at least during the day; seems to struggle at night), adjustable beds, decent shower with flexible sprayer, foldout table if you want to eat in, plenty of lighting, lots of hangers and hooks for your stuff. There's always a bowl of free apples and sometimes buns in the lobby. The windows open 2 different ways, the blinds are remote controlled, and the backlit flower mural is is nice touch. If you like retrofuturism, high school locker chic, and/or bright yellow, you'll like the aesthetics.
Cons: they tell you they only clean during your stay on request, which would be fine except that I have reasons to be skeptical that they remember to request all the necessary cleaning between guests. When I arrived I found a towel crumpled on the floor like dirty laundry and hair on the toilet seat, and when I went to sleep, the pillows smelled fine but the mattress smelled a bit sweaty. The bedding is also super scratchy and way too heavy right now - I wake up drenched every morning, which is the main reason I haven't asked for new linens. The sink design is terrible: there's a constant pool of water in the bottom that makes the room humid 24/7. I'm amazed I haven't seen mold yet. There's no airflow or fan over the bed, either. You can't choose which way the blinds fold, and there's enough light from the offices and streetlights just below the window that in the middle of the night with all the room lights off it looks like the sun is never more than 30 min past setting. It's also quite loud out back because of all the equipment loading and dumping and cleaning and chatter and drunken singing out back. You need both an eye mask and earplugs here.
The garish decor looks like it was meant for a dorm or high-end youth hostel, and then when they opened it to everyone they decided to add LED strips to disguise the cheapness as futurism (the LED strips in the hall are actually rather painful to look at obliquely). Everything is new enough that not much is broken or malfunctioning yet, but you can tell they tried to have too many amenities for their budget, so none of them are of good quality. I think they'll be lucky to last another 10 years before the whole place goes under from the...
Read moreWe recently spent 4 nights at the Buddy Hotel, and weren’t particularly impressed with much about the hotel. As seasoned (and senior) European travelers from the US, we are familiar with how rooms and expectations are different here, especially in older hotels, but given this hotel was obviously recently built or remodeled, we found many of the ‘modern’ design elements in our room to be odd and not very thoughtful to serving the needs of guests. PROS: Best shower in any hotel we’ve ever stayed at in Europe. A real showerhead in a walk-in and roomy shower. Other features of bathroom were modern and nice, though no wash cloths provided. Hotel and room security was good. Location next to a main avenue and escalator right out the front door to underground transit was great, as was short walk to train station.
CONS: Self-check-in was a pain, and the machine didn’t produce a key-card. There is a receptionist on-duty only during certain hours. Fortunately, she was there to make a key for us when the self-check-in machine didn’t. We paid for a larger room, which was worth it space wise, but it had several quirks that were very frustrating to overcome, even with the help of the receptionist. Main room had 6 overhead bright spotlights and all controlled by one switch – creating an atmosphere similar to a basketball arena. Only piece of furniture in the room other than the bed was a couch; no bedside tables, no luggage stand, no dresser or cabinet to unload your suitcase to. Overall, the hotel served our purpose, and we dealt with the inconveniences as one must learn to do...
