We’d been loyal customers since the day this cake shop opened, but after the way my wife, baby, and I were treated on a rainy Sunday, we’ll never visit or recommend it again. Truly disappointing experience.
Regarding Your Response:
Dear Kevin,
At first, we preferred not to go into details, but since your response—we felt it was necessary to share our experience respectfully.
We have been loyal customers since your café first opened, and as you know, we are very familiar with how things work there. You also know me personally; we have never spoken in German before, and I even recall you once asking me if I was from Florence.
That Sunday was very rainy, and since the entrance of your café is not easily accessible for a stroller or a wheelchair, and finding a parking space nearby is almost impossible, I had to briefly stop my car in a no-parking area to help my wife and baby get inside safely. As we arrived, two female customers were approaching the entrance. Since entering with a stroller and baby items takes longer, we let them go in first. When we entered right after them, they were still standing at the counter with their coats on, looking at the cakes — so we assumed they were ordering takeaway.
When I first entered, I saw no one who had been waiting for 15 minutes, as mentioned in your reply. In fact, even you were not behind the counter at that moment. Quite interesting, isn’t it? 🙂 Instead, there was a bearded man I had never seen before standing behind the counter. Therefore, it was physically impossible for me to greet you.
I went in and out of the café three or four times to carry the stroller and baby items. You came to the counter only after my first entry. I believe you saw me going in and out several times, yet you neither said anything nor tried to inform us of any issue. Later, when I finally sat down after bringing everything inside, you suddenly raised your voice from behind the counter and started speaking in German — even though you knew I spoke English. You repeated the same sentence several times, loudly enough for everyone in the café to stop and turn toward us.
This situation, which occurred in front of our baby and the other customers, made both my wife and me feel deeply embarrassed and uncomfortable — even though we had absolutely no ill intention. I calmly tried to explain in English that, when we first entered, there had been no one apparently waiting for that table, but you chose to ignore my explanation.
As the owner, your tone and approach toward a family in such a setting were not courteous, and this left us genuinely disappointed.
We still wish you and your team all the best, but we stand by our original comment: that day was, for our family, a truly hurtful and disappointing...
Read moreI absolutely love this place! I've been a fan since the owners had Ginger and Grey's and was shattered when they closed but Life is Sweet is such a great alternative! Everything is amazing -- seriously haven't had a cake or baked good that I didn't like. As an American expat, I'm always on the hunt for cakes and cookies that are close to the ones I get at home and honestly this place has done it if not added a more sophisticated flare. The staff are always so kind and efficient, and the owner is also super kind and sometimes stop and talk to you and ask for your honest opinion on the food which I find very admirable! Finally, the decor is absolutely adorable. Very modern but with its own twist. It's dog friendly so no worries there and I've never had an issue finding a spot to sit and enjoy my food but weekends in general in Munich are overall tricky so this probably will depend on when you visit. Overall I would totally recommend stopping by here to pick up some yummy baked goods! Coming from an American expat, they're...
Read moreI stumbled into Life is Sweet after a really long, tough day and just wanted to pick up a slice of cake and a moment to breathe: what a positive twist to my afternoon, visiting this cafe!
Kevin and Milan, the lovely co-owners I believe, were incredibly kind and warm. Not only did they greet me with such friendliness, but they patiently answered my questions and also offered me a slice of cake on the house. It was done very unconditionally, and meant the world to me in that moment (and not the reason I'm writing this review, the cakes and cookies here are a treat in themselves and worth trying out!).
The cafe itself has such a cozy, uplifting vibe, true to its name. I tried the vegan banana chocolate cake which had just the right amount of sweetness and tasted really fresh. :-)
I’ll definitely be back, not just for the sweets and food, but also to say hi to the team there and to support a space that really radiates kindness. Danke euch nochmal, Kevin...
