I visited this coffee shop after two separate individuals recommended it to me and both say it's a great place to work and study with good coffee. I visited it on a Saturday at about 4:40 PM and ordered a cappuccino and a slice of matcha cheesecake. With all espresso drinks, you have two different bean options. I chose the "chocolaty" option and was very pleased with it. The matcha cheesecake was pretty good as well, although the crust was a bit too thick for my liking.
Now, I went there with the hope of doing some reading and studying, which I did. However, after about 20 minutes, I was told by the owner in a very friendly manner that iPad is not allowed. Turns out that their no laptop policy on weekends and holidays isn't only for laptops - it's for tablets as well, which I think is extremely unfortunate as it does not take up more space than a book + a notebook and one is basically doing the same thing but digitally. I must add that the owner was friendly about it and did let me continue using it as they were closing in 40 minutes and the place was only about 10% occupied. That said, I'm still disappointed that this is not a place for me to read and study and I will not visit regularly due to this policy.
With all that being said, I do plan on revisiting this place sometime in the future to try out the different bean. I will simply not visit it often due to its ban on iPads but no ban on books and papers.
Oh, one last good thing. Despite their stance against digital technology, you can still pay with card, so...
Read moreThe cafĂ© itself is cozy and offers coffee, cakes, and small dishes, but given the prices and overall experience, we expected much more and left disappointed. Service was English-only, which felt unusual for Germany. The food was ok but nothing special - the avocado toast, for example, had a strange aftertaste of vegetable broth and wasnât worth the price. I also wanted to briefly use my laptop but was asked to stop, as apparently, laptops arenât allowed on holidays â even though the cafĂ© was half empty. The only written rule stated âno laptops on weekendsâ, but we were there on a Wednesday. The cafĂ© claims to serve Specialty Coffee, but there was zero transparency regarding the beans, roast, or origin â something that should be standard for real specialty coffee. The cappuccino was lovingly made, but the taste was only standard. Overall, itâs an average cafĂ©, but overpriced and nothing special. Based on the reviews, we expected something far better....
Read moreThe owner seems very friendly and well-connected with the locals. But when I ordered a drink, he had a demeaning attitude. I asked for a cappuccino and he acted judgmental. Then once I said âfor here, pleaseâ he muttered âplease, now there you goâ. In hindsight, I would have left, because I felt uncomfortable during the rest of the stay. And it felt wrong to question his character in front of people he knew.
When I watched others with similar orders (like asking for a cappuccino and only saying please at the end), he seemed kinder. Perhaps heâs nicer to women. Overall, he seems like a decent guy, but individually I had a poor experience and I regret giving him business.
I still gave 2 stars because the coffee was good. Also, no laptops on...
