I’m a little ashamed to say it took me going to Tattenbach 3 times before I remembered to write a review, but our experience this weekend was so good I had to jump on and talk about it. We went to Tattenbach 2 weeks ago on a 2 day layover in Munich as we were headed to southern Mexico. We looked for a good place that served Augustiner Bräu and had good reviews. This weekend we are back in Munich as we head home to Türkiye and popped in again not once but two nights in a row.
I’ll preface that this place can get extremely busy around 7:30 or 8:00pm. If you want to avoid that mad rush try coming later which we did one of the times we came in for dinner and beer. To our lovely surprise, on each visit we were so cordially welcomed and the staff was so helpful and apologetic because it would take a little time to get us seated. We didn’t mind as it was warm and out of the cold rain. On each visit the floor manager tended to us, checked up on us, and each of these lovely ladies we encountered were so friendly and helpful.
The vibe of this place is what we love. Doesn’t get a ton of tourists, and you can tell this is where the locals come. It’s so nice to go in and see whole families sitting, laughing, and drinking beers without becoming obnoxious or intoxicated like it often happens where we’re from. The place is really cozy and rustic with lots of dark wood, frescos, cool chandeliers, and even cooler old school bier steins.
Lastly, the food and bier. Everything we ordered, be it wurst, duck, dumplings, pork shoulder, cheese spätzle was mind blowingly delicious! Bavarian food often times is comfort food. Something like what your grandmother would cook for you to tell you she loves you. That’s the vibe we got from the food. Bavaria’s way of saying “we love you”.
In my humble opinion Augustiner Bräu is the best brew in the city. I love a cold Dünkel and had a couple on each visit. The last night we were there we sat at the bar and watched the bar keep artfully fill the beer mugs with the perfect attention to detail with the perfect ratio of beer to head on each beer she poured. Each Dünkel was my favorite 🤣
What can I say but, Thank you Tattenbach for making us feel welcomed and like we were long lost family during our visits! When we are back in Munich in the near future, you can rest assured we’ll be back...
Read moreA very friendly and funny waitress with the qualities a decent waiter is to have :). The gasthaus offers a wide beer selection and some wines. I do, however, have some comments about the food. The Spargelcremesuppe/asparagus cream soup was good and tasty but the pieces of the asparagus were cut into huge pieces unable to be put inside one's mouth in one bite. Moreover, my dad's main course, the Wienerschnitzel and the side roasted potatoes, was (a little bit) burned which caused an unappetising taste. For dessert we of course had to try the Kaiserschmarrn which takes, according to the menu, about 30 minutes to bake. Well, we were waiting for almost 30 minutes when we heard the waitress ask the chef: »Where is the Kaiserschmarrn?« He apparently forgot about it and then wanted to make it as quickly as possible. Unfortunately such desserts take time to be baked and in the end it was served ... well, it could be left on the stove for a minute or two more. The taste itself was still good though. On the other hand, the Käsespätzle and the fried chicken thighs with potato salad were tasty. The cost: 4 people; 2 soups, 1 big mixed salad, 4 main dishes, 1 Kaiserschmarrn and drinks: about 130 €. Overall a good experience with some details to...
Read moreFinally I found a German restaurant in Munich where I’d love to come back.
I grew up in Bavaria myself and have very high food and authenticity standards. This place is just perfect 😍
Everything had been served hot, freshly prepared, beautifully presented and simply delicious. The portions are huge!
I had the Käsespätzle which had been extraordinary - not sticky, nor creamy and not heavy at all. In contrast they had been cheesy, tasty and well roasted. Fantastic!
The Kaiserschmarrn (caramelized pancake made) had been absolutely wow! Super delicious.
I want one highlight that I really like that this restaurant uses organic eggs 🥚
My friends had been similarly blown away by the amazing food they had.
The staff was refreshingly sympathetic, smiling all the time and in great mood - a service and ambience I have hardly seen in restaurants nowadays. Simply great!
The ambience is also rustic, cozy and authentic Bavarian. Prices are very reasonable and fair.
My new and only favorite German restaurant in Munich - I will come back for sure!
