Stopped here on our night stroll at Marienplatz, probably shouldn't have. Despite the variety of dishes to choose from we ordered one french fry, one cheese nacho and regular beer and aperol spritz, as we weren't hungry much. For a place located in the heart of the area, I would appreciate better quality. Portions were quite big for snacks and the prices were in accordance, but the food did not taste good. Everything was below average: fries tasted like they were store-bought frozen and thrown in the fryer, nachos were also probably store-bought but more importantly had this taste of weird, or should I say old, oil. Drinks weren't anything special. The sauce plate on every table around had one or no pack of ketchup, just mayonnaise. Stars deducted from service for not keeping track of this, it genuinely is not hard. Specifically considering the fact that I caught the waiters chatting while customers were waiting, I'd have to give service 2 stars and that is only because the personnel were mostly friendly. The atmosphere was warm with some subtle lightning, but the tables were stacked together and were distanced poorly in order to fit in more. This caused the place to feel stuffy, especially if you are uncomfortable sitting close to strangers. Generally average quality tables/chairs. The above-usual pricing (37 euros for everything I mentioned) comes with being in a touristic place, but considering the quality it is not worth the money. Very basic place, overall would not...
Read moreThe Apfelstrudel with the vanilla sauce was absolutely fabulous! fakey dough and perfectly sweetened apples was an absolute treat. You can't beat the atmosphere of the Marienplatz in the late evening. Most tourists are gone so you get a chance to enjoy the piano and string ensemble playing contemporary scores.
The only distractor and reason for the bad score is the service. I chaulk it up to typical german bad behavior. We wanted desert and a beer to close out the evening, but apparently they only wanted to service dinner, at 10 o'clock at night. The Italians take their time to take your order, these guy rivaled the italians. Then, after finishing our desert we waited nearly an hour, we tried to flag a waiter. He looked at us, and walked away, and took the most indirect route back. It appeared he was trying to avoid us. The next time I caught another waiter's eye and he too walk away. I had enough and yelled across the tables to get him to finally acknowledge me. I hated to act like an ugly american. I have been swindled, taken advantage of, but I have never been treated like that by anyone in all the countries I have traveled in.
If you want a fabulous apfelstrudel in a great setting, this is your place. Otherwise, steer clear and spend your money elsewhere, where they may...
Read moreI’ve been to this restaurant about four times now.
Like many restaurants in Marienplatz, they can be really busy at times. This means there isn’t always a waiter at the entrance to direct you where you should be seated. There were times where I wanted to eat here and stood at the entrance, but walked out because it felt too awkward to stand there not knowing what to do. :( However, the service is wonderful. They make wonderful menu recommendations. The waiters there are wonderful. They are patient with you if you try to speak german, but they speak excellent english as well.
Today I had a wonderful server named Singh. We talked about where we were from and had a nice chat about indian culture. I had ordered the sausage palette (I think that’s what it is called?) and Kaiserschmarrn.
Another server i had a wonderful experience with was this waiter named April? At least I think that was her name? Anyways, she recommended me the Pfeffersauce to add to my chicken schnitzel, and I was very grateful :).
Try this restaurant! You won’t regret it. The sausages are wonderful, but if I may make a small suggestion, I do wish the restaurant had more desserts like Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte or...
