WORST TREATMENT AND SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD IN A RESTAURANT My wife, me and our 4 years old son arrived to dinner at 8:50PM. There was a group of 6-7 people (around 60 years old) just waiting. The waitress seat them in a table in the terrace, gave menu cards and so on... When she moved back to the restaurant I asked "fur drei?" (for three?). She didn't say anything and went on. We stood there for 15 minutes waiting to be attended. Every time she passed near us, she seemed to be very busy and I had no chance to ask her again. Even a couple from Austria (we had time to speak with them about our holidays and provenance) where around 10 minutes waiting for the bill. When finally they could pay, and left the table, I asked again if it was possible to have dinner. In this case she answered fast: it was late and restaurant was closed. I told her we where there waiting for 20 minutes but it was too late, she disappeared inside the restaurant. It was raining since 10 minutes, and we had lost 20 minutes there waiting for nothing. I'm sure she had seen and listened us the first time(nobody is at the door in a restaurant , doing nothing, waiting for a weather report). We were really polite, trying not to interrupt waiters going in and out, or tying not to disturb when they were doing their job. I've read a comment where they say they are racist, as a group of colour people were treated in the same way. In our case my wife is a Doctor, I'm an engineer and our son wants to be fireman. I think they don't want people after 21.00. And if you arrive 10 minutes before that time, they will try to "attend" you after that hour, to have and excuse and no delays in the closing time. They are democratically disrespect. The day before we had tried to dinner there; in that case it was 21.30 and we understood it was too late when they told us. We had dinner in a restaurant very near that zone; and service and food was very nice (also punctuation in tripadvisor is better). After second refuse, we looked for another restaurant, and finally we had dinner in a big and very famous brewery near that zone. Both dinners where ok and treatment were...
Read moreA great traditional German restaurant. The menu was not necessarily limited but what was offered was sausage and meat based with typical German sides.
The beer was great - I had a Weiss beer, came in a typical tall narrow glass, it was lovely.
The sausage offerings came in different numbers only - 6, 8, 10 or 12. When asked the multilingual waiter explained - 6 or 8 was typically preferred by ladies, while the larger numbers by the men. The sausages are not large - think chipolata. For dinner I had 10 sausages and sauerkrout (was congratulated on my selection - the alternative of potato salad wasn't as traditional, apparently). This was also great, the sauerkrout offset the fat in the sausages really well (not that they were fatty, they were really decent meaty sausages).
It was all served on small shaped metal dishes. Many of my Italian colleagues had the mixed grill (all chose potato salad smug mode engaged) which looked great too - sausages and a pork steak. I didn't have a pudding but apple strudel with a thin creamy custard was on offer. Looked simple but it smelled nice and was demolished with murmurs of appreciation.
The building itself was warm, plenty of low tables under the low ceiling. Plenty of wooden beams also in evidence. It had a great atmosphere and we were made to feel welcome. The bill was split "a la romana" as my Italian colleagues say, the English would say "we went Dutch" or it was split equally. Each of us receiving a copy of the receipt for our expenses which made things simple.
Smoke outside!
Definitely give...
Read moreI'm sharing my experience at Bratwurstglöcklein. We arrived at the restaurant around 8:00 PM and ordered food and beer. The food came quickly. The bratwursts were delicious and we were very happy with the fare. However, we realized we found our appetites and hadn't ordered enough food. We tried to get the waitress's attention multiple times (6-10 times), but she ignored us, even as other tables were served and left.
Finally, at 8:45 PM, we managed to get her attention to order more food, only to be told the kitchen was closed, despite it actually closing at 9:00 PM. I asked if I could have some bread for my hungry 1.5-year-old, but she walked away without taking an order. My father eventually went inside and spoke with the bartender, and we were able to place and receive extra food and beverage.
I'm sharing my experience because I felt we were treated differently from other patrons, possibly because I'm Chinese and my son is biracial (my husband is white, British and American). No one should be treated differently based on race, gender, age, or sexuality. My son won’t remember this, but I will. This was my first trip to Germany, and I believed here we would be treated equally. I certainly hope that when my son is my age and travels with his family, this won’t happen to him. Change starts somewhere, and I hope this note contributes to a better tomorrow.
P.S. The bartender stopped by our table and acknowledged our frustration and made...
