We had a family dinner at "Alte Kanzlei" and enjoyed the evening in this restaurant very much. Service was friendly and swift, and the typical Swabian dishes (roasted beef with onion gravy and grilled potatoes) as well as the seasonal offerings (white cooked asparagus with new potatoes and hollandaise sauce) were tasty and portions plentiful. Also, the vegetarian dish named "AK Superbowl" (cous cous, grilled vegetables and sweet potato mash) was tasty and well presented. The atmosphere at "Alte Kanzlei" is relaxed, but classy and the location besides the "Schlossplatz" and across from the old castle is very central in downtown Stuttgart. Alfresco dining with a great view of the Stiftskirche is also available. We enjoyed the great food, good service and cozy atmosphere a lot, and had a great night at "Alte Kanzlei". Recommended!

My daughter's review: Title: Maps review Date: 06 Oct 2023 Note: 3 out of 5 The food was pretty good. For the main course I ordered the käsespätzle. It was really cheesy, but there were some really crunchy onions that were really hard to chew. For dessert I ordered the crème brulée, it was really good looking, but it was super watery and there was a really sour fruit on it. The restaurant was really beautiful on the inside, it was so modern, but the outside was pretty bland. The service was great! Our server was super kind, she was totally nice about us speaking English. Food 3 out of 5 Service 3 out of 5 Atmosphere 4 out of 5 My review: I ordered the steak and it was fantastic! Great service.

Im Restaurant "Alte Kanzlei" waren wir spontan und ohne vorher reserviert zu haben. Wir mussten nicht warten und wurden direkt an einen freien Tisch gebracht. Da die Preise in der alten Kanzlei etwas höher sind, haben sich alle von uns für kleinere Mahlzeiten entschieden. Ich hatte die Putenmedaillons mit Pilz-Risotto, zusätzlich hatten wir eine Portion Käsespätzle (mit Beilagensalat), sowie ein Mal Raviolo gefüllt mit Steinpilzen. Brot mit Butter bestellten wir auch noch als Ergänzung dazu. Das Essen wurde zwar rasch serviert, doch hat immer wieder hat etwas gefehlt. Erst war es der Beilagensalat zu den Spätzle, dann fehlte das Brot und schließlich auch die Butter zum Brot. Jedes Mal mussten wir nachfragen und die Servicekraft eilte schnell in die Küche, um nach den Bestellungen zu sehen. Generell waren die Servicekräfte nett, aber dennoch hatte ich nicht wirklich das Gefühl, dass wir hier willkommen waren. Die Putenmedaillons mit dem Pilz-Risotto waren sehr lecker. Die Portion hätte etwas größer ausfallen können für den Preis, aber ansonsten kann ich mich da nicht beschweren. Die Käsespätzle waren gut, nicht zu würzig, aber auch nicht zu langweilig. Lediglich die Ravioli waren sehr langweilig und fad und konnten nicht überzeugen. Das Ambiente im Lokal ist einladend. Modern eingerichtet, trotzdem noch den alten Charme des Gebäudes beibehalten. Alles in Allem hatten wir nicht die beste Erfahrung im Restaurant "Alte Kanzlei." Die Preise sind hoch und die Portionen eher kleiner gehalten. Das Essen ist größtenteils wirklich gut, aber nicht jedes Gericht ist empfehlenswert. Ich schwanke zwischen 3 und 4 Sternen, werde aber 3 Sterne vergeben, da ich mir bei den Preisen und dem Ruf, den das Restaurant genießt, etwas weniger Fehler bei den Bestellungen erwarten würde. Ein Kinderhochstuhl wurde uns auf Nachfrage gebracht.

This place is right in the heart of Stuttgart, beside the Neues Schloss. They serve traditional German dishes and the taste is great. We visited yesterday for the first time and the experience was awesome. We ordered Cappuccino, Fried Maultaschen with Kartoffelsalat and Schwabenteller that had Käsespätzle, Maultaschen and Kartoffelsalat. The taste and seasoning was on spot. The balance of flavor was good unlike many other places. We would love to go back.

Superb location: one entrance on the grandiose Schlossplatz, the other on the more intimate Schillerplatz with a wonderful view of the Stiftskirche. Locally brewed Kellerbier. What's not to like? Well, the service, for a start. Only one (overworked and surly) waitress for around 20 outside tables. Another 20 were padlocked up and "unavailable" - even on a perfect autumn evening. Two customers got fed up with the long wait. And we soon followed.

I had a wonderful experience at Alte Kanzlei. It is tucked away right in the Stuttgart city center; this will definitely stay on my list of Stuttgart's best! The Käsespätzle is mouth watering and delicious down to the very last bite and is accompanied by a delicious side salad. The restaurant ambience is lovely and the service is very friendly (I'm an American speaking English and they were wonderfully accommodating). I can't wait to return!
