I visited this restaurant today and my experience was terrible. We ordered set dosa, dal makhni and Jeera rice. The service was terribly slow that it took 45 mins to get our food. This was not just the case with us but with everyone at the restaurant. Talking about food quality, they ran out of dosa batter which they made fresh again (possibly the reason of delay). There was no salt in the better which led the dosa taste bland. It was set dosa, however only the outer crust of dosa was thick while it was thin like plain dosa in the centre. Sambhar was provided after we finished a dosa. Dal Makhni had no salt at all. Luckily nothing went wrong with Jeera rice. I would not just criticise but would also highlight good things like we asked for extra chutney which was provided to us. The waiter was very polite and clearly told they were overwhelmed with customers today and dosa orders which led to the delay.
My point is the restaurant name is Dosa house then how can you only have two pans and more tables than you can serve during peak hours.
I would not recommend...
Read moreRead the negative reviews after eating at the restaurant. I don’t know how the place has so many good reviews. I agree to all the points that the 1-star-reviews have.
I had paneer dosa- the dosa was crispy but burnt and the paneer was so oily that I could smell & taste the oil more than I could taste the paneer. My tissue paper was filled with yellow stains from the oil. Sambar was just dal- not the usual sambar served with dosa. The coconut chutney was sour- gone bad(?). The mango lassi wasn’t good either. Nothing tasted good and the prices were relatively high for the quality of food they served.
In the previous reviews, the owner has mentioned how the location is central. I agree- but the restaurant can be made a bit appealing. The stair to the washroom was so scary- the steps were tilted and made people more susceptible to slip. The decoration and hygiene can be worked upon. If people are spending their hard earned money on your food, they deserve good food and atmosphere- can’t have any excuses for that.
The server was quite sweet though. Smiled and...
Read moreKudos to starting a south indian restaurant in Athens metropolis. Definitely the more authentic Indian restaurant out there by the Monastiraski area.. Others are by and large Bangladeshi restaurants also selling Indian food. The subcontinent cuisine is so varied, that it is like bundling all of Greek, Italian, French and other cuisines and calling them European instead.
Ok, here are some improvements suggested based on my limited sampling. Dosa dough could be a bit more fermented.. this will make the dosa, idli clan to be spongy to soak in all the flavors chutneys and sambar have to offer. Perhaps the possible shortage of fresh coconuts, the chutney wasn't upto mark either.. Sambar was a daal. That said, if you temper the expectations and avoid dreaming of a Saravana Bhavan while dining at Dosa House, you will not go wrong.
The indian couple that Sat next to me who had ordered 2 sets of meduvada have one set up for the trash.. likely the same lack of sponginess..
All in all, a true indian joint with ample opportunities to score. I will be back giving...
