MatchPoint — Restaurant in Athens

This is the first time I feel that I need to leave a negative review on Google and express how awful a place is, and how much I dislike it. I've been there a handful of times since I live in the neighborhood and occasionally friends will want to meet there (despite my warnings), so I'm not saying this based on a single, unfortunate experience. I'm saying this based on about 3 years worth of experience with this rotten place. First of, the staff is rude, slow, lazy and downright xenophobic. If they don't like your demeanour they'll deny you seats in front of the place, even after you've already sat down at an empty table. They give you attitude for the slightest things, and it's as if they get a kick out of being bitchy to customers with their short and rude answers, almost a 'we're better than you' attitude.

I once waited 30 minutes for service on a very regular night (not a busy one), but they only brought the menu, even though I said I knew what I wanted, and I had to wait another 20 minutes. When I finally managed to order, in about 30 more minutes or so, I realised they forgot the order so I had to try to get their attention again. It took about an hour and a half to get a single, 4,5€ cup of tea (their prices are ridiculous on top of everything), and they didn't even bother steeping it for me. Just handed me a bit of boiled water and a paper bag with tea from the supermarket around the corner.

I really wish I could give it zero stars. I'd be happy to go on, and this is the only place I've encountered that I will actively warn people from going to. Wouldn't recommend this place to my...

A very cool bar on the outside space but very null yet overloaded with "hip" objects bar on the inside space. Tables outside are amazing, European style clean simple and minimal with great service (it's really incredible how the waiter spots you so fast).

The interior is asphyxiating with everything from countless frames on the wall to flowers, colors, stairs and awkwardly placed random furniture.

If the bar is indeed themed after this great movie then stick with it, lose the vintage porcelain accessories from the tables and everything else that screams 'ikea meta' and...

Ως κινηματογραφόφιλη που έχει κάνει το Match Point στέκι της, μπορώ να πω με σιγουριά ότι αυτό το μαγαζί έχει μια ξεχωριστή γωνιά στην καρδιά μου, είναι ένα μικρό καταφύγιο για εμάς που λατρεύουμε το σινεμά. Καταρχάς, ας μιλήσουμε για την ατμόσφαιρα. Είναι θεματικό σινε-μπαρ με αυθεντικες αφίσες από γνωστές ταινίες και υπάρχει μια διακριτική αύρα κινηματογράφου που την αντιλαμβάνεσαι αμέσως μόλις μπεις. Ίσως είναι οι συζητήσεις που πιάνεις με άλλους θαμώνες για την τελευταία ταινία που είδες, ίσως είναι η αίσθηση ότι βρίσκεσαι σε ένα χαλαρό σκηνικό, σαν αυτά που βλέπεις σε ανεξάρτητες ταινίες. Είναι ένα μέρος όπου νιώθεις άνετα να αναλύσεις την τελευταία σκηνοθετική δουλειά ενός αγαπημένου δημιουργού. Έχω πετύχει ωραίες ανταλλαγές απόψεων για ταινίες, και κάποιες φορές βάζουν μουσική από αγαπημένα soundtracks, κάτι που πάντα εκτιμώ. Η αίσθηση της κοινότητας που δημιουργείται μεταξύ των θαμώνων συχνά καταλήγει σε αυθόρμητες συζητήσεις για ταινίες και θεατρο. Οι τιμές μπορει να είναι λίγο πιο πάνω από ένα απλό καφέ της γειτονιάς. Αλλά για μένα, πληρώνω και την αίσθηση ότι βρίσκομαι σε έναν χώρο όπου μπορώ να είμαι ο εαυτός μου και να μοιραστώ το πάθος μου για τον κινηματογράφο και το θεατρο με ανθρώπους που το καταλαβαίνουν. Αν είσαι λοιπόν κινηματογραφόφιλος και ψάχνεις ένα ήσυχο και φιλόξενο στέκι στο κέντρο της Αθήνας, όπου μπορείς να πιεις τον καφέ ή την μπύρα σου και να κάνεις ενδιαφέρουσες κινηματογραφικές συζητήσεις, τότε το Match Point κοντα στο Πεδίον του Άρεως αξίζει σίγουρα μια επίσκεψη.
