I visit Athens frequently several for business and vacations . I'm Scottish and travel a lot around the world. I can understand how you would feel being a tourist in the centre of the city.. thinking if Greek food is authentic...
Well. On this occasion.. Street Souvlaki pleased me... and my local friends have also recommended this place when they have partied in the centre or shopping on Irmou...
Panagiotis (the manager) manages the place and he keeps it very well. His staff are approachable, accomodating and friendly. However. One person to be mentioned is Dora who makes the place tick and adds character! She's South African so any visitors from South Africa in particular. Give this place a visit and it will feel you haven't left home.
By the way. I didn't know these people before... just seeing them in action in 2 sittings made me appreciate that small business need support from visitors like us!
Being a frequent eater of Greek food. The food is simple, delicious, clean and not expensive like any other tourist trap in the centre..
Good menu which a true representation of a Souvlaki bar with salads present. I ate the chicken gyros... The fries are cooked in clean oil.. the vegetables are clean. The chicken is cooked and properly spiced. You feel that you are eating something clean and filling.. leaving full in a nice way.
Give this place a go and it's worth it for a...
Read moreDuring my recent trip to Athens, I decided to try out Street Souvlaki , a seemingly popular spot for tourists seeking a taste of traditional Greek cuisine. Let's start with the positive aspects. The location of Souvlaki Delights is convenient, nestled in a bustling tourist area with a charming outdoor seating area. The menu, as expected, featured a variety of souvlaki options, showcasing the classic Greek flavors that everyone raves about. However, the execution of the food left much to be desired. I ordered the classic chicken souvlaki, and while it was decent, it lacked the wow factor I was hoping for. The meat was a bit dry, and the overall flavor was underwhelming. The accompanying pita bread was on the chewy side, and the presentation of the dish seemed somewhat lackluster. Service, too, fell into the realm of mediocrity. The staff seemed a bit disinterested and overwhelmed by the constant influx of tourists. Although they managed to get the orders right, there was a noticeable lack of warmth in their interactions. In terms of pricing, Souvlaki Delights wasn't outrageously expensive, but given the quality of the food and service, I couldn't shake the feeling that I might have paid a bit too much for what I got. All in all, Souvlaki Delights is a passable option if you're in the area and looking for a quick bite...
Read moreI’ve been coming to Street Souvlaki for a few years now, and it has never failed to impress me or the friends I bring along. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and authentically Greek a true taste of Athens. But what truly sets this place apart is the exceptional customer service, especially from Dora from South Africa.
Dora is an absolute gem! Her warm hospitality, genuine smile, and bubbly personality make every visit feel special. As a foreigner myself, her kindness and attentiveness always make me feel at home, and my guests have said the same. Dora’s love for what she does shines through in every interaction.
Honestly, she’s one of the main reasons I keep coming back and always with new guests. If there were a commission for being a loyal "tour guide" to Street Souvlaki, I’d be at the top of the list! Thank you, Dora, for making every visit memorable and for sharing your incredible energy.
Street Souvlaki is lucky to have her, and so are all of us who get to experience her amazing service! Highly recommend this spot for delicious food and top-notch...
