The best grilled lamb I have ever had! If that is the only comment that is read from this review it is an important one. I have lived in Norway for several years and eaten a fair amount of good lamb, but in terms of quality and preparation this is easily some of the best grilled lamb I have had the pleasure of eating. It was pleasantly salty, with a hint of charred flavour, a couple pieces were slightly tougher but most pieces were quite tender.
We were 2 dining that evening ordering the mixed grill which had lamb and pork (also very tender) served with fries. For an appetiser we ordered the Greek salad, and eggplant dip which was served with toasted bread. There was not as many fries as expected but a generous portion of meat. For 2, it was more than enough food, and if you don't have a large appetite you will probably go home with some leftovers, but won't go home hungry.
After dinner we were given some complimentary ouzo, which was a nice way to finish the meal. Our waiter was a charming Greek man who patiently explained the menu to us in English The decor and atmosphere was warm and inviting on a cold winter night with a roaring fire. It was also cool seeing the grill area upon entering and exiting the restaurant. A great...
Read moreIn our trip to Greece, we also visited Meteora, where we spent a night in Kalambaka. Near our accommodation, we came across this so-called restaurant. The initial impression didn't promise much, but we still decided to stay. A significant mistake.
They treated us so poorly that we deeply regretted it after the "meal." Despite the posted opening hours suggesting the kitchen would be open until 1:00 AM, an unfriendly older gentleman warned us that we only had 35 minutes to eat (arrival time - 10:25 PM). The reason for this was that the chef was leaving the premises at 11:00 PM.
With three children and two seniors, feeling very tired and drained, we thought it best to order before potentially searching for a restaurant for hours at this late hour. They probably offered us the leftovers of leftovers because the food was charred, greasy, and inedible (soggy, half-cooked fries, limp, tasteless vegetables...). It couldn't have been more repulsive.
Even the dozens of restaurant cats showed zero interest in the meat. We collected almost untouched food in a bag and offered it to starving stray dogs – they actually ate it with strange, disgusted expressions. Clearly, those poor animals were completely famished.
All in all, the price-to-value ratio was overpriced, the food was tasteless and barely edible, and the staff was unfriendly. Additionally, there were several budgerigars and canaries locked in tiny, inappropriate cages right next to loud music speakers and exposed to suffocating grill smoke. Completely lacking empathy and unfriendly to animals.
This so-called restaurant is not one we can recommend to anyone. Avoid it at all costs!
Vermeiden...
Read moreOur regular Kalambaka mountain-side restaurant was closed this night so Skaros was recommended by friends (locals). My husband is Greek Cypriot and an amazing cook and he was definitely impressed with the grilled lamb, horta and potato fries. Absolutely scrumptious. Just enough salt to bring out the flavor of the meat and the fat was charred to perfect crispiness. Horta was perfectly wilted but still had the right crunch and the fresh lemon juice brought out the bitter, tangy flavors of the greens. Fried potatoes were thin enough for crunch on the outside and thick enough for fluffy insides. Nice table wine and Greek beer accompanied our very delicious dinner. On a Monday night, the restaurant’s tables were filled with young Greeks, families and couples enjoying a great dinner. Definitely a place to go back to. Overall, it was a great meal, with great hospitality and it was...
