Alatopipero — Restaurant in Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands

It’s our last meal in Corfu and we got the worst fish ever during the whole trip. Everything (grilled or fried) dry and chewy and salty. First time in my life knowing that one can cook a Dorade (fatty and juicy fish kind) this dry. It is also over-grilled and black as Charcoal on the surface, which they tried to covered up by spilling over some weird-taste lemon sauce. Ordered 3 dishes, got 3 different kinds of dry/fishy in a very not fresh way/salty fish, and 3 piles of oily salty french fries!!! If we would order a few more dishes we would get more French fries piles for sure. They don’t really care about the food at all.

Small text in the menu charging for cover fee, olive oil and vinegar each for 1 euro extra.

Don’t get deceived by the vibe and reviews. Anywhere in Corfu could do so much better.

The only “good” part is the price, which looks comparatively cheap - however, the portion is Accordingly small!! A grill swordfish steak, we got half a steak basically (obviously a half of one complete steak slice) , charged for 12 euro. (Which means a whole steak would be in fact 24 euro) . While in other places a whole swordfish steak is 14-16...

Update after second visit:

This time we have tried different meals: • Zucchini patties - average • Cheese croquettes - average • Grilled seabream - OK • Gyros - OK • Salad (tomato & cucumber) - OK

I didn't check the receipt before paying but later realized that it contains two items (both named food) which we didn't order. One could be for the bread (1.5€) which we didn't order and didn't touch, the other (1€) - have no idea. I'm not a "fan" of paying for the ghost items thus adjusting my rating accordingly (also reflecting the taste of todays meals). Initial post and rating: We stopped here as there were no open restaurants around the place in the middle of the day.

Service was promt, meals prepared quickly as well. All the meals were tasty, thus five stars for the place.

The only disadvantage is that they don't serve beer...

Update 05-2025: New experience at this once favorite taverna. Not good... Uninterested staff while taking orders, smaller portions for higher price, quality not as good (same dishes as last years). When the waitress asked how everything was and we indicated that we had much better in the years before she just shrugged her shoulders and brought the bill. No more 'free' dessert also like always. Disappointed. Rating dropped from 5 to 3...

Original 2020: Superb taverna close to the Spilia gate in Corfu town. Visited by both locals and tourists, this taverna serves traditional Corfiot and Greek dishes including some hard-to-find ones like Brian or Tsigarelli. Some nice creative salad options as well. Very friendly service, good portions and delicious food for a reasonable price, especially considering...
