Oh wow! I read other reviews and had great expectations and I wasn’t disappointed. What a great food experience. This restaurant has big terrace outdoor with many tables and also plenty of room indoor and yet really hard to get a table evening time. Even at the end of April no free seating outside after 8pm. We were more than happy to seat inside. Interior is really warm and authentic. Nothing glamour or fancy but traditional. Love the ordering system. Basically you get a little notepad with menu items ( all tapas style) and you need to write yourself your order and quantities. Everything is reasonably priced- from 4 to 15 euros. Great selection of salads, side dishes , meats and sea food. We decided to try: beef in tomato sauce, baked cod, ham&cheese croquets, boiled greens, fried potatoes and beetroot salad. Dishes arrived all at once (except the fish) along with a basket of fresh bread. Portions were good size for three of us to share and the food was just divine. Our favourite was the beef and least we would recommend was the boiled green . The service was pretty quick but as this place is busy sometimes it’s hard to drag waiters attention. Not a big problem for us but might be for some. You also need to pay for your meal at the counter afterwards. It was really good experience for us and will definitely come back to try...
Read moreTo Tsipouradiko was AMAZING! We expected a queue, and there was a small one by 20:30 on a Tuesday evening - however we were seated in about 15 minutes. We were so glad we persisted!! I don't think it's possible to pre-book.
The interior has a great ambiance, there was a vinyl record player providing music, and later in the evening a couple of musicians had their guitars out playing traditional Greek tunes.
Service was swift, helpful and polite. They give you the menu book (which appears to change daily), a notepad and pen, then you write what you want to order. Our waitress was able to advise us whether we'd ordered too much, so we could amend our order 😄
Here they serve "tapas" style small plates that all come together to the table. These are very generous portions. We are a couple, and sharing 5-6 dishes was definitely plenty, perhaps a bit too much for others, as we're quite greedy.
The food was hearty and very delicious. We had spicy feta dip (tirokafteri) and bread, minced beef and aubergine with cheese (a take on moussaka), battered cod with skordalia, boiled greens, chicken in a tomato and pepper sauce, fries, and some Alfa beers. Altogether including a tip this came to under €65, we couldn't believe how reasonable this was.
If you can only visit one place in Corfu Town it...
