We had a great table at the open doorway facing the walkway. Perfect for people-watching. Staff were friendly and efficient.

My wife and I did not complain or send anything back, but only because it just isn't our way when we are traveling internationally. We take what we're served. But our rather enjoyable visit to Veneto was a comedy of errors.

We were happy to find Manhattans on the cocktail menu, but the "Manhattans" were served in Old Fashioned glasses, with ice, and without a cherry. They were, in fact, Old Fashioneds (and delicious). Serving Old Fashioneds as Manhattans is typical throughout Greece, but no less frustrating for being typical.

The "Caprese salad" had no balsamic vinegar but rather a pesto drizzle. It wasn't awful, it just wasn't an authentic Caprese. Veneto bills itself as an authentic Italian restaurant, but this salad was Greek Italian, not Italian.

The "spaghetti marinera" was spaghetti with a non-tomato cream sauce. It was delicious but wasn't Marinera. Marinera is a tomato-based sauce. Always.

The risotto in the "Risotto Frutti de Mare" was under-cooked rice, as we've found elsewhere in Greece. Very disappointing because the Frutti de Mare was very nice. The risotto ruined the dish.

We liked everything except the risotto, but virtually nothing was right. Old Fashioneds for Manhattans; pesto for balsamic vinegar; cream sauce for marinera; and under-cooked rice...

Well, after writing a review on Trip Advisor, and not only reading the owners response to mine and other not so favourable reviews, I am appalled at the rudeness and arrogance of this individual .

Reviews on food and service are meant for self reflection and or improvement NOT contempt and being left to feel your opinion comes with a lack of food knowledge, travel experience or the ability to express an opinion !

The spaghetti WAS overcooked NOT left to get cold, as was the owner's excuse . The salmon was not even minimal, never mind plentiful ! The food WAS expensive compared to many other beautiful restaurants in Chania . The tiramisu, as an expert, having it all around the world was NOT up to par. It did not taste like tiramisu or mascarpone, as it should have! I was accused of not knowing how it should taste! The pizza was good . That's about all. The service WAS slow especially when the waiter the owner's son could clearly see we were finished .

To belittle your customer's for writing a bad review doesn't exactly instill confidence in attending this...

Do not eat here! I caught food poisoning here and was really sick for 10 days. My husband and I had carpaccio as starters, which had too much pesto dressing on it. You couldn't taste the meat. My husband had filet in winesauce which was ok, but not special. I had pizza Diavola. It had so much ground black pepper on it that you couldn't taste anything else. I ate most of it, my husband ate some of the edges, but none of the peperoni. He had some problems with his stomage. I weken up the next morning feeling really sick. We had to travel that day to the other side of the island so I was unable to confront the owner myself. It took 5 days before the cramps were over. It spoiled the rest of our vacation! I left the same review on TripAdvisor and the owner reacted by saying it was my own fault for enting a spicy pizza. If I couldn't handle spicy I shouldn't have ordered it. And I probably put all the spicy oil on it. What spicy oil? There was none. And I am used to really spicy food like sambal and jalapeno peppers. Don't...

We research options before picking and Veneto had strong reviews. We can add to that view. We found street parking on the south or west side of the Venetian fort. We strolled through parts of the old city. Found the restaurant t without difficulty. It is in a passage about one off the port area. Seated in the lovely courtyard, I shared primitive red wine carafe with lovely spouse and our companion sipped a sweet/sour lemon aperitif. We came for pasta and loads of good quality pasta dishes was delivered. Our choices were carbonara, pesto with chicken, and puttanesca. The service was attentive but not overbearing. Dessert looked great but was unimaginable on our full bellies. While the carbonara and carbs may whack my bad cholesterol and spike my blood sugar (kidding/not), it was “to our tastes”!! Thanks for your kindness!

Roaming the myriad of quaint streets and after many nights of traditional Cretan food, we found this lovely Italian restaurant. Quiet when we arrived, it soon filled with groups to sample the Italian food. The restaurant owner was very much hands-on and conducting business . Sadly, the food didn't live up to expectations with my wife's steamed mussels being far too salty and my zucchini bread being dull and boring and arriving without olive oil. Eventually the owner, despite his resistance, agreed after consultation with his chef and she chose scallops instead, which were delicious. My chicken tagliatelle was good and the bottle of prosecco was excellent. We shared a tiramasu which was nice. After 22yrs in the restaurant the boss needs to learn some humility. Very expensive meal .....
