We wanted something traditional and off the beaten track (always the best places), and sure enough, that is what we found. An absolute gem of a restaurant, a short walk out of Heraklion City centre. As you walk along the suburban, residential street, you begin to think you’ve made a wrong turn. But keep on going and then appears a set of stairs. Probably not for the disabled, but guess you can’t have it all. At the top, is a beautifully laid out, coveted terrace, with an assortment of plants and beautiful view. We were immediately greeted with the warmest of welcomes and seated straight away. After perusing the drinks menu, we were recommended the house white wine, which is made in house. I have to say, it’s the best white wine I’ve had in Greece, with floral notes and a hint of lemon and pepper. At €6.90 for half a litre, you just can’t argue at the value. The menu is varied and, although I’m not a fan of menu pictures, on this menu, they truly assist with your choices as they are numbered and do show you exactly what you are about to receive. We selected the greek salad, souvlaki and goat to share between. A platter of bread, black olive tapenade and tomatoes arrived. Following came the meal and what a meal it was. The Greek salad was plentiful, tasty and complemented everything on the plate. The goat in tomato sauce, what can I say? If you’re not a fan of bones, then this isn’t the dish for you, but I don’t mind at all. The goat just fell off the bone. The tomato sauce, rich and so full of flavour, without overpowering the taste of the goat. Souvlaki is something I haven’t tried before, so was keen to give it a go. Again, the meat was tender and flavoured with aromatic spices and went so well with all the other dishes we had ordered. If I was to have it again, and this is just my personal choice, I would ask for no chips. For me, you just didn’t need them with all the other flavours and textures. Another half lite of the homemade wine was ordered. (Yes, it was that good!!) our waiter was attentive, but not in your face. After finishing the main course, we debated if there was enough room for dessert. No need to debate, as before we knew it, a plate of fresh watermelon, the most moist, light, lemon cake and creamy ice cream was delivered to our table, totally complementary, alongside the obligatory raki. Total price for the whole meal, including wine was €38. Simply the best value for money. We genuinely cannot find fault with here at all and will make it a place to...

So, best restaurant in Crete. The food and vibe were amazing. The atmosphere had the home or grandparents feeling, thus felt warm and cozy.

Regarding the food, one must be smart in their decision. So let me be your helper and tell you exactly what to order and don’t add or minus from my list.

Firstly, you must get the boiled greens. They are amazing. Drizzle with olive oil, you’ll see it yourself. I should’ve ordered three more.

Secondly, the sour crushed wheat soup. This was absolutely delicious, especially with fresh lemon and bread. this was a hearty dish and perfect for a winters day as the salt and the creaminess of the goats Milk were exceptional.

Thirdly, the lamb pie was beautiful. All though very filling, so be aware, not to get any meat dishes.

I would also recommend the Croquettes, whether the meatballs or the zucchini:

And please don’t order your traditional chicken or meat dishes, because you will not experience the best of the Cretan diet.

And when you try these dishes, please send me a message and tell me how good...

Erganos restaurant is a fantastic restaurant, providing high-quality, local food. It was the top recommended out of four restaurants in the area, and we were not disappointed at all. Reservations are necessary as this place was full. Angelo served us with a smile and great energy. More than that, he would say my name when speaking with us, which made his service stand out. The for quality was truly amazing!!!! At the end, I asked for the dessert menu, and Angelo said he would provide us with homemade dessert on the house! Then he also provided Raki (strong alcohol) with the dessert. After finished the Raki, he brought more! Just amazing service, fantastic food quality. I even heard other customers talking about tipping a high amount and that they would definitely come back. Truly amazing. If you want authentic food, a nice atmosphere and fantastic service, come here. You...

It was a very pleasant and wonderful dining experience during my stay in crete island. The food are, needless to say, very traditional and delicious. I especially love the goat with tomato sauce, full of flavors. The staff are very hospital and kind, as I was deciding what to order about the main course, they kindly offered me some samples of the lamb, which was cooked by wood for 4 hrs, it was very tender and smokey - I love it too! Since I am eating alone, I also packed them for tomorrow's meal, and all the dishes cost only around 20 Euros - very affordable! I strongly recommend this restaurant, you're gonna have a good time! Thanks again!

My wife and I had a fantastic last meal in Greece at this location. This was a very authentic Cretian restaurant. The food was a bit on the salty side, but overall very unique and delicious. To start, I tried the lamb pie and we shared the dolmades. I had the goat then my wife had pork souvlaki. We had a table in their Glasston patio, which was very nice, but unfortunately at times the service was a bit slow, but I believe it was simply because of staffing shortages. We received a complementary dessert with some honey pastry and some freshly sliced watermelon with some Raki. Overall I would 100% give this restaurant a shot.
