Kafenion To Smari — Restaurant in Municipality of Heraklion

I’m a little late but me and my friends are from Spain and were visiting Crete back in August 2022 and staying near this restaurant. We walked by the place several times during dinner time and it was always full of local people, so we really wanted to try it. On our last night, we were able to have a table for us, and it became one of the best experiences on the trip. We had the menu translated for us, everyone was incredibly nice, the food was outstanding, homemade and for a very good price, we got an amazing impression of traditional greek food and we actually ate A LOT. It seemed like a family business, and they were all so warm and seemed very happy to have us there. We appreciated it so much. Kafeon to Smari is as authentic as it gets--both in terms of cuisine and the Cretan family experience, as it's owned and operated by a husband and wife and their family. The location is perfect, being situated on a block that's on the outskirts of the bustling city centre, and sitting outside is not only peaceful, but also gives you a gorgeous view of the illuminated city wall. The food is nothing short of amazing. The menu changes by the day, as everything is made fresh and family style, offering the best in flavour and authenticity. Top it off with extremely reasonable pricing, and it's the perfect Cretan dining experience.

Το καλύτερο μπιφτέκι στο Ηράκλειο, το καλύτερο σφουγγάτο. Όλα σπιτικά. Εργατικοί και φιλόξενοι ανθρώποι που κάνουν καλά την δουλειά τους δίχως θόρυβο. Αξίζει να το επισκεφτείτε.

Επισκέφθηκα και χθες το σμάρι μετά από αρκετό καιρό και διαπίστωσα ότι όσο περνά ο καιρός γίνεται και καλύτερο ποιοτικά. Έφαγα μια σαλάτα κι έναν ντάκο με ντομάτα τόσο κόκκινη και φρέσκια που δεν πίστευα στα μάτια μου. Η ευγένεια του ιδιοκτήτη και των παιδιών ήταν άψογη. Επειδή διάβασα φευγαλέα κάποια πικρόχολα σχόλια και ομολογώ ότι θρήνησα βουβά για την κατάντια της κοινωνίας, όσοι θέλετε high class restaurants και ποτήρια κρυστάλλινα, γιατί δεν πάτε στο peskesι, στο θυγατέρα και όπου αλλού ταιριάζει η υψηλή σας αισθητική η οποία βέβαια πληγώνεται την ώρα που πληρώνετε, ελεεινοί διακονιάρηδες του δεκάλεπτου. Όσοι διαβάσετε αυτή την κριτική, να ξέρετε ότι την γράφω ορμώμενος από αλήθεια και μόνο αλήθεια, έχοντας υπάρξει στο παρελθόν ιδιοκτήτης επιχείρησης κι έχοντας αντιμετωπίσει την βδελυρή σήψη που τρώει την ψυχή του Νεοέλληνα... Καλύτερα κύριοι να παρακαλείτε όσο υπάρχουν τέτοια μαγαζιά " παλιατζούρες" ατόφια, μνημεια του παρελθόντος που κρύβουν μέσα τον κόπο της ζωής από γενιά σε γενιά και που προσφέρουν την καρδιά τους στους πελάτες τους. Αλλά ξέχασα... Εσείς δεν έχετε καρδιά, ούτε παιδεία,ούτε γνωρίζετε πως βγαίνει το ψωμί. Αυτά.
