Honestly, very disappointing. There are plenty of better choices in the town! We have dined extensively at good restaurants in Crete. Here's a really honest appraisal of our experience at En Lefko:
Firstly, no welcome, just a 'Sit where you like.' from a young lady who came out after we had been waiting a while. She went back inside so I then had to go and get some menus. The people who work there, we were told, are new as the people who worked there are new and (as I was told by the owner) untrained.
Our opinion is that their people all did their best. We ordered a pork starter, delicious. They brought a large bottle of water, which we thought was complimentary since we didn't order any, but later found it on the blll! Sneaky! This happened at every table. Now for the food....
The mussels were really great, well cooked and seasoned and very tasty. Some of them weren't open -which is a complete no no in any restaurant since they can be dangerous to health if eaten.
The sea bream was overcooked - and the texture of cotton wool. No one came to the table to ask if everything was OK - we waited and waited but no one came - even to look after others, some of whom had been sat waiting a long time.
The owner then arrived at the restaurant, which was very busy.. I asked to speak with him discretely to one side, politely away from others and explained about our experience. He apologised and seemed really sorry, however in reality he didn't take any notice.
Other diners were expressing this dissatisfaction with the service and the food and getting really impatient. The owner paid lip service to what I had told him, but did nothing except send a pancake and some Raki.
Unfortunately for the owner he has made the mistake of not taking things seriously and this restaurant will cease to exist unless he takes notice. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to care even though he told me the restaurant was having big staff and other problems. .
Restaurants are reliant on good reviews and this one is in for a meteoric fall from grace unless someone who cares takes note.
He told me the new staff were from Albania and knew nothing about waiting table in the West. So why open, knowing that - and inflict poor food and service on customers. Either don't hire them or train them properly and look after them!
We paid our bill in full and left very disappointed, especially with his final comment 'I have enough customers - some like the food other don't.
Great attitude - not.
So think twice people and perhaps save your money! There are other really good offers in this area. We came away wishing we'd left at the first signs of...
Read moreTo say that this restaurant is outstanding would be an understatement. We loved it! The food is amazing. There are a lot of items on the menu that we previously had never tried. One night we wanted to try sea urchins and were told that the owner was currently out fishing for those. Whatever you order at En Lefko make sure that you try the strawberry salad, we really enjoyed that. What shocked us was the dessert. At En Lefko once you ask for the bill they bring you not only one dessert, but 3-4 different desserts and they don’t even charge you for it. I have never seen that prior to En Lefko in any other restaurant I went to. What really impressed us was the service! Every night we went to En Lefko the owner made sure to greet us and was always within our reach if we needed him. Everyone in the restaurant is extremely friendly. We did wait a little bit longer for the lobster that we ordered one night but were told in advance, once it arrived and we tried it we jokingly said that we would have forgiven them a waiting time of a week for that lobster. Otherwise there is no chance that the waiters will not notice you calling for them. In fact they will put everything down that they have in their hands in order to come to you. The prices are more than appropriate, I would even say that they should charge way more. Overall there is not a single thing that I would criticize about En Lefko, we had a lovely experience there! Usually I never leave reviews for restaurant but in this case I needed to! A lot of restaurants could and should be trained...
Read moreFrom the moment you step into En Lefko in Palaiochora, you realise it’s not just another seaside taverna — it’s a culinary gem. What truly sets En Lefko apart are the distinctive flavors of its dishes: subtle, inventive touches that elevate traditional Greek and seafood fare into something memorable. One of the things that impressed me most was the freshness and finesse of the fish. You could tell the catch was local, handled with care, and prepared so it sings with flavor. In many cosmopolitan places — Athens or trendy islands — a dish of the same caliber could easily cost double. Here, you pay fairly, and you get brilliance. The owner, Mr. Yannis, deserves a special mention — he has clearly made genuine hospitality his number one priority. He’s always attentive, always ready with suggestions, always ensuring that every guest feels taken care of. It’s rare to meet someone who runs a restaurant with such personal dedication. Do yourself a favor — make a reservation. It’s not optional if you want to be sure you can enjoy a relaxed, wonderful dinner here without disappointment. And as for the complimentary treat at the end — I’ve never encountered anything quite like it. Not just generous in quantity, but high in quality: a dessert, a little surprise, a digestive — it was a lovely finishing touch, one that rounds off the evening with a feeling of being truly valued as a guest. Thank you for the...
