A Hidden Gem in Kos – Avlogyros is a Must!

I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Avlogyros in Kos, and I can confidently say it was the best restaurant experience I’ve had in Greece. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted like old friends. The owner, Sakis, was incredibly warm and welcoming, making the whole experience feel personal and memorable.

The service was top-notch — friendly, attentive, and genuinely caring. It’s clear they take pride in what they do. The atmosphere is relaxed and authentic, the kind of place where you instantly feel at home, whether you’re coming off the beach or dressed up for the evening.

Now, the food… wow. We ordered the house-made Greek salad, which was bursting with flavor and freshness — the tomatoes and feta were some of the best we’ve tasted. Oh Kos how we miss you. This place looks nothing special but don’t let that deter you. Staff are super friendly, some may think pushy , but these guys need to make a living too, competing for customers. Food is sooooo nice. We have been going to kos for 18 years and this is our first evening meal every time ( plus a few more visits over the fortnight) if you are a larger group they will happily move tables together with minimal disruption to others eating there. A mixed meat gyros is to die for, if you have a big appetite this is for you. I’ve never finished a full plate yet but I never let it deter me. Other food on the menu is equally as nice. We have never felt rushed to move once eating like a lot of the other restaurants / tavernas in the harbour. Prices are reasonable and bordering on very cheap for the amount you get. The gyros was very good, had a mixture of chicken and pork gyros. Some of the servers were also friendly and the prices were not so high. After receiving the bill we got a ouzo from the house, which was very nice. So overall the experience was pretty ok. Why not giving 5 stars would you think? Well, one of the waiters was continuously talking bad about the neighbor restaurant. He made some really offensive personal accuses to the owner of the restaurant next to him. And also telling everyone not to go there. I have been to the neighbour's restaurant once and it was a pretty good experience and good food.
