Some context about my 3-Star review: relative to all the other Matsuhisa and Nobu restaurants I’ve tried, this place gets a 3 Star.
Walked in on a Monday night with no reservation and was able to get a pool side seat. Got some appetizers started and was really enjoying the ambiance and decor. Started with the classics, hamachi jalapeño, new style salmon sashimi, crispy rice with spicy tuna, and just a ton of the smaller plates, and we were well on our way to a 5 Star meal.
Started to order nigiri and was told they have no toro, no o-toro or chutoro. No shima aji. No madai (red snapper). Basically they only had the basic nigiri fishes of salmon, tuna, and shrimp and whatever else. That’s fine, I get 2 pieces and move on. I then order the toban yaki A5 Wagyu and this is really what broke the camels back. For 100 EUR this needs to be perfect. Well guess what, it was not perfect. By the time it got to our table and they opened the top, the A5 was over cooked all the way! This is definitely not how this needs to be served and I am using reference points from my other matsuhisa and Nobu experiences. Big disappointment and really makes me doubt any of the other big plates here.

Read moreFirst a disclaimer: I am a Nobu LOVER! Actually I am one of those guys that tells a life story about using 5 different Nobu’s restaurants in ten days. From New York to Milan, going through London. Chef Matsuhisa is very special and Nobu dishes and informal but exclusive service is unique. Hopefully Lisbon will happen very soon. Besides a Sushi lover, I am also an architect and only mention this because later it may help to understand this critic. Now about Mikonos. Mikonos was the kind of experience we need to forget asap! Just erase from memory. The place is very strange venue (forget about being a LHW property… even they can go wrong). No idea why there are no proper wind protection on a place called Belvedere and on an island known by windy days… Now I will spare you from a food appreciation… will just mention that my seabass come with BONES. No apologies! just took it out of the bill … as a very normal restaurant… Chef Matsuhisa heritage deserves better. It can happen… but how you sort it out is what makes it special… Hope this helps future travelers. There are other Nobu”s and Matsuhisa locations… do not jeopardize your...
