Elatos Tavern — Restaurant in Municipality of Nafplio

Absolutely Horrible Food!!! We ordered the following:

Fried eggplant with garlic Country Style Sausage (χωριάτικο λουκάνικο) Two orders of beef in red tomato sauce (μοσχάρι κοκκινιστό) with fries.

I have never had worse food. The bread came first. It was cold and it looked old and stale. We went past that and ignored it. Then the eggplant appetizer came. In Greek cuisine this appetizer is eggplant slices fried in olive oil or other good quality edible oil with minced / chopped garlic and chopped tomato on top. Instead, we received five sliced and fried eggplant pieces that had almost no garlic on top and a gross red tomato sauce that was clearly out of a can. No chopped real tomatoes or any chopped garlic that we could see. We ignored that too and ate this horrible appetizer.

Then we received the two dishes of “beef in red tomato sauce”. These dishes came with fries. Both dishes were horrible. We basically received a few tiny pieces of beef that were approximately 2 x 2 to 3 x 3 cm and looked like leftovers. They were overly tough possibly because they were reheated more than once and they were not covered with the red tomato sauce that were supposedly cooked in, but with the same exact commercial tomato sauce that was out of a can and that was also used on the fried eggplant appetizer that we ate.

We did not want to create a problem with this type of clearly commercial food that this establishment was feeding us and we did not say anything about it other than to mention to the waiter that the beef was tough. He replied that “this was impossible”. I managed to eat all of my food while my wife ate some and left about half of it.

So far, so bad. The worst part of the experience however came when they brought over the country style sausage (χωριάτικο λουκάνικο). This appetizer dish included two pieces of sausage along with fries. My wife tried a small portion at the corner of one of the two sausages and she could tell right away that this was not Greek country style sausage but the worst quality of highly processed sausage that one could find. I tried it also and I agreed. The sausage tasted bad, smelled bad and the texture of the meat had nothing to do with Greek country style sausage.

This sausage that they served us was a direct insult to us and to Greek cuisine. We own a Greek restaurant and we are fully aware of what Greek food tastes like and unfortunately this restaurant chooses to serve very low quality commercial food to people that has nothing to do with what is described on the menu. We had to return the sausage.

The fries that we received both with the beef and with the sausage were read frozen precut fries and not fresh prepared fries as is the custom in Greek tavernas that served good Greek food.

Shortly thereafter we realized why this restaurant was serving such commercial low quality food and was getting away with it. All of the sudden a tour guide appeared that was body body with the restaurant staff and brought with him about 50-70 young Americans, most of which were served grilled chicken filet with fries.

The conclusion is if you do go to Nauplion, be very careful where you go to eat because at least this “Elatos Restaurant” is serving commercial low quality food because they cater to tourists.

Επειτα από βόλτα στο Ναύπλιο επισκεφθήκαμε το Έλατος 5 άτομα αρκετά απαιτητικά ως προς το φαγητό! Σταματήσαμε μπροστά στο μαγαζί και μας κέντρισε το ενδιαφέρον αρχικά η θετική αύρα και το καλωσόρισμα του προσωπικού! Καθίσαμε στον εξωτερικό χώρο καπνιζόντων που ήταν καλαίσθητος ζεστός και φιλόξενος! Αμέσως και χωρίς καμία καθυστέρηση ήρθαν να μας πάρουν παραγγελία. Πήραμε τσιπούρα φιλέτο,καλαμαράκια, γαριδομακαρονάδα, παστίτσιο, τυροπιταρι,καρμπονάρα, κολοκυθοκεφτέδες,βραστά λαχανικά με χόρτα!Επιλέξαμε ποικιλία στα πιάτα αφού ως Αθηναίοι και αρκετά κοσμογυρισμένοι θέλουμε όπου πηγαίνουμε να υπάρχουν σωστα και αντικειμενικά κριτήρια πριν από κάθε αξιολόγηση μας. Πήραμε επίσης κρασί λευκό ξηρό που έσβηνε τέλεια στον ουρανίσκο μας! Τα φαγητά ήρθαν χωρίς καμία καθυστέρηση ζεστά προσεγμένα ΚΑΙ ΠΕΝΤΑΝΟΣΤΙΜΑ ενώ πάντα υπήρχε σερβιτόρος διαθέσιμος σε οτιδήποτε χρειαζόμασταν! Ποιοτικά πιάτα μεγάλες μερίδες καλομαγειρεμένα καλοψημενα με ποιοτικές ύλες σε τιμές άλλης εποχής! Το δε παστίτσιο καλύτερο και από σπιτικό! Σέρβις εξαιρετικό όμως εδώ θέλω να επισημάνω πως το κόσμημα του μαγαζιού είναι ο Κωνσταντίνος! Ένας άνθρωπος με αριστοκρατική αύρα που αποπνέει μια ποιότητα μια πολυτέλεια που συναντάς σε 5αστερα εστιατόρια μα συνάμα τόσο απλός και ζεστός που σου ανοίγει η καρδιά! Ερχόταν και τσεκαρε αν ήταν όλα καλά στα τραπέζια ενώ ο αέρας του σε έκανε να νιώθεις τόσο οικεία σαν να γνώριζες τον χώρο και τους ανθρώπους του χρόνια πολλά! Σε αυτή την όμορφη ατμόσφαιρα έρχεται και δένει και ο Βλαδίμηρος που με το κύρος την ευγένεια και το φωτεινό του πρόσωπο σε κάνει να νιώθεις πως είσαι σε άλλη εποχή που οι άνθρωποι στην εστίαση είναι γεμάτοι χαμόγελα και καλοσύνη,σέβονται τον διπλανό τους και αγαπούν αυτό που καλούνται να κάνουν. Δεν μας έκαναν ούτε μια στιγμή να νιώσουμε σαν πελάτες.Αυτο το βλέπαμε και στα διπλανά μας τραπέζια αφού ήταν απίστευτα θερμοί και εξυπηρετικοί με όλους! Εάν υπήρχαν 100 αστέρια θα τα έβαζα δίχως 2η σκέψη! Χθες φάγαμε εξαιρετικό φαγητό σε ένα μαγαζί καλαίσθητο και ζεστό,όμως δεν χόρτασε μόνο το στομάχι μας αλλά και η καρδιά μας! Χθες γνωρίσαμε ανθρώπους μιας άλλης εποχής και δειπνησαμε με την φιλοξενία την ίδια και την αγάπη ανθρώπων που ξέρουν να κάνουν σωστά την δουλειά τους! Θα το επισκεφθούμε ξανά σύντομα και προτρέπουμε και όσους αγαπούν το καλό φαγητό και τους όμορφους ανθρώπους να το επισκεφθούν χωρίς δεύτερες σκέψεις! 3 του μήνα αρχές της νέας χρονιάς με το δεξί σε όλα και πώς αλλιώς όταν ξεκινάει με τέτοια θετικά vibes 🫰 Υγ: όταν μπήκα να γράψω την αξιολόγηση μου είδα κάποιες αρνητικες κριτικές χωρίς ιδιαίτερη επιχειρηματολογία και αυτό δειχνει ότι δεν είναι αντικειμενικές αλλά κακοπροαίρετες. Υγ1:Μια δοκιμή θα σας πείσει ,ο καλύτερος κριτής είναι ο ουρανίσκος σας! Υγ2:Στο τέλος της βραδιάς πληρώσαμε εμείς όπως θέλαμε χωρίς καμία υπόδειξη από το μαγαζί,ηλικιακές διακρίσεις δεν διαπιστώθηκαν ΠΟΥΘΕΝΆ,το μαγαζί είναι pet friendly και δεν υπάρχουν πουθενά έξτρα χρεώσεις. Φύγαμε με τις καλύτερες εντυπώσεις και με δύο μπουκάλια κρασί που μας έκαναν δώρο ο Κωνσταντίνος και ο Βλαδίμηρος αφού η χημεία μας ήταν μαγική! Σας ευχαριστούμε για όλα! Μια ευχή για το 2025 να ζούμε βίο αξιοβίωτο να αγαπάμε και να ονειρευόμαστε! Καλή χρονιά με υγεία! Καλές δουλειές ! Εις...

If you’re looking for an authentic Greek atmosphere, this restaurant is definitely not it. The music? Forget bouzouki and Greek melodies — we were treated to Russian hits. When we politely asked for something Greek (you know, since we’re in Greece, not Moscow), the response was a brilliant: “What’s the problem?”

Then came the cod roe (taramasalata). It was so salty it felt like they were trying to hide bad quality with a mountain of salt. The result? All five of us had a truly unforgettable night… with stomach pain.

And the service? Well, after we dared to mention the music, the waiters decided communication was optional. They just dropped plates on the table without saying a word, as if we’d insulted them personally.
