I don't normally go to restaurants where there is a guy outside asking you to come in but i had already made up my mind to visit here based on google reviews. We spent 47 euro on a meal for two with one beer no wine, thats quite a lot for Greece. I normally review the food but this time I refuse to because i am in a state of shock. We finished our meal but the heater stopped (it was outside in november), we asked for a warmer place. Waiter one said nothing he could do, waiter two was better and moved us. Understand this is in a half empty place with many heaters. Then we asked for tea and coffee and was told there was none because they work with a nextdoor cafe that was closed. Then we asked for a bill. It is an unwritten rule in greek restaurants that after a meal you are offered a small complimentary dessert. The bill came but no desert. We paid and left not saying anything. The guy on the street who was hooking customers asked us how it was. I mentioned that in three greek visits eating at dozen of places i was always offered complimentary dessert. Without skipping a beat he relied they offered coffee instead. I let it go vowing i would never eat again at a place with people outside hustling passer buys no matter what its google review. If you want to enjoy genuine Greek hospitality offered at most eateries...
Read moreSorry but not a good experience. We feel entirely cheated and it was not a good first impression of the local restaurants. We waited for almost an entire hour just for the appetizer. A lot of beggars around coming to the tables asking for coins. Fresh fish portion was 17€ for literally 4 small fish accompanied with some kind of boiled greenery and nothing more. I mean, if the meal is so "light" maybe some fries would work better? Nothing extraordinary about the meals, really. We could have eaten elsewhere else better, and much cheaper. I would also like to add that we kept noticing other people being served prior, even if they arrived way after we did. Even when the restaurant was half empty at some point, still we were the only ones without even the appetizer on our table. We worry that it might have been a case of age and nationality discrimination ( older groups of natives were served immediately, while we were being continuously dismissed). Overall, waste of money and most importantly, time, or maybe we were...
Read moreWe ordered two dishes here the other day. For the 'Giouvetsi' we would give this restaurant a solid 5/5. The slow cooked beef was very tender, the orzo was cooked perfectly and the dish was extremely flavourful with a very noticeable hint of red wine. However, the 'Grilled Tenderloin' we would rate with a 3.5 stars tops. The meat was flavourful, but extremely dry and overcooked. This might be a cultural way to cook beef in Greece, but being from the Netherlands we would definitely have liked this tenderloin a lot more tender. The grilled veggies however were nice and the mashed sweet potato was tasty.
Slices of bread with olive paste for starters and a piece of orange cake for dessert were served from the house and were an enjoyable addition.
The service could have been a little bit better; the staff was friendly, but it was sometimes difficult to get their attention. Overall the experience was good and we would definitely return for the Giouvetsi if we are ever back...
