We came with high expectations as the restaurant had good reviews and the atmosphere, when we arrived, looked lovely. Beautiful esthetics on the tables and looking very cosy and inviting. The first starters were truly wonderful- the katiki salad, vegetable keftes and the fried cheese with honey. But then we got the salty pancake with cheese which was everything but a pancake- it was actually very thick bread with some cheese. It had nothing to do with a pancake- we just scraped the cheese and left the rest. It was not a good dish! The special of the day was baked panceta with caramel sauce which we got very excited about- but it was very disappointing since, even though the meat was indeed soft and juicy, the caramel sauce had curry (which was not mentioned in the menu) which made the taste very off and was definitely not enjoyable. We also had the seafood risotto with squid ink- rice was excellently cooked but again the taste left me disappointed- it was ok but far from delicious. I did not enjoy it. The service can also be much better- it was a very busy day and I understand that the staff was stretched and stressed, but we did not get a single smile from our server, I felt very unwelcome, he even complained that I asked for the salad to not have vinegar (i cannot eat vinegar) as this how they make it, and we had to leave our cigarette butts on the table as nobody brought us an ashtray during the entire lunch. There is a lot of space for...
Read moreEvery summer, my return to Nafplion isn’t complete without a visit to Κακαναράκης, situated among a lively stretch of shops and cafes, Κακαναράκης offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere that perfectly complements the energetic surroundings of Nafplion. The restaurant’s open-air seating lets you enjoy the buzz of the strip while indulging in some of the finest Greek cuisine around.
My meal began with a wonderful surprise: the Κριθαρωτό θαλασσινό (seafood orzo). This dish was a true highlight—each bite was so fresh, it was as if you could taste the ocean itself. The orzo was perfectly cooked, absorbing the rich seafood broth, and was accompanied by a delightful medley of shrimp, mussels, and calamari that melted in your mouth. The flavors were bright and briny, showcasing the freshness of the ingredients and the chef’s skill in bringing the sea to the plate.
Alongside, I enjoyed the σαλάτα σαν σπανακόπιτα (spinach pie salad), which cleverly deconstructed the beloved Greek spinach pie into a refreshing and light salad. It combined fresh spinach leaves, feta, dill and a hint of phyllo crunch, drizzled with a tangy vinaigrette.
If you’re in Nafplion, don’t miss the chance to dine at...
Read moreYesterday (20.06.2021)in Nafplio I had lunch with friends at this lovely restaurant but left with mixed feelings.
The tiropitari (fried cheese pie) was outstanding and just as I remembered from my many previous visits. 😋👍😋 The stuffed wine leaves (dolmadakia) perfectly cooked but lacking in taste!🤨🤨 The pork dish a friend ordered was tops 😋👍😋 but my steak very disappointing & overcooked ... something that really surprised me as in the past it was always perfect! 🤨☹🤨
I'm going back 4sure ... hoping however that whoever was cooking the meat yesterday .... was just having a bad day! 😉😊😉
I'm leaving my previous review below as I wrote it ... although nowadays they have made some changes when it comes to the kitchen staff.
Loved this restaurant location in Nafplio, delish and well prepared food as well as its friendly and professional service.
