Delicious food, great wine list, reasonably priced, and warm service. The ambiance is great with a fun Greek playlist.
My meal consisted of 2 enjoyable local wines recommended by the staff, the anchovies starter and the lamb baked in oven. The wine list is all Greek wines with many options made on the Peloponnese peninsula. If you don’t have time for food at Aiolos, I’d recommend stopping by the adjoining Alkion bar for a wine tasting. The bar is also fully stocked and has a nice bartender if you’re wanting some other drink.
The marinade for the anchovies is more acidic than most preparations I’ve had but I rather enjoyed the brightness of it. The peppers on top complimented nicely. The marinade was so good I ended up dipping the bread in some of the marinade and pouring the rest on my salad. The lamb baked in oven was very tender but a little dry. It came with a side of a mustard based dip so I dipped most pieces to add moisture. I also dipped a couple pieces in the anchovy marinade, again for added moisture. The side potatoes were nicely crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Both the side potatoes and side bed of shredded lettuce were unseasoned so I ground some peppers on top. The pepper grinder on the table contains fruity and bright peppercorns which added a fun and unexpected dimension to the food.
Dessert was cut apples with honey and cinnamon. Very tasty and something I’m going to have to start...
Read moreVERY DISAPPOINTED and feel ripped off. This was our 2nd choice following recommendations and how wrong we were to choose this considering what is around Nafplio. There was only 2 of us and we ordered our wine and dinner (shared meal, as we werent that hungry and it was getting late), before 4 tables, 1 with 8 people. We sat waiting... and waiting and waiting ... and watched all these other tables that ordered well after us get their food, some even the 2nd course. We asked twice where our food was, the first waiter didn't even bother to return but the 2nd agreed that we had been waiting and ended up bringing us our 'village pork souv'. To be honest, it is not a hard meal to cook and for the price (€15.90), what a rip off for what you get. That should be €8 if that. We chose this meal as we thought, quick, easy meal with some salad. How wrong. There was plenty of pork (even though it was dry) but a spoonful of salad and some potato chips. When we went to a different locals restaurant the night before, for exact same price for DOUBLE the amount of food and wonderful service, it begs to understand what your paying for. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID at all costs. Could not wait to leave. Infact, we almost just stood up and walked away. Bad service and half the waiters were rude. The only thing they were quick at was giving...
Read moreWe had dinner at Aiolos Tavern for 2 people.
Ordered: Lolita salad (the vegetables were fresh and the dressing was well-balanced. However, there were too many croutons, and unfortunately, they weren’t very crispy.)
Raw artichoke (overly sour and didn’t quite work for our palate.)
Grilled sausage (flavourful overall, though one piece was overcooked - almost burnt, while the other was nicely done.)
Alkioni (from the specialties section - It was a generous portion, around 350gr.)
Wine (Palivos and Aivalis - One of the highlights was their impressive wine list. Enjoyed both great character and perfectly paired with the food.)
Pricing-wise: We expected it to be a bit more affordable than Athens, especially since the high season hasn’t fully started. But prices were comparable to top spots in the capital. We paid €63 in total.
Service: The most disappointing part. It was hard to get the attention of the staff, making eye contact to place an order took effort. They even declined to toast the bread, saying they were too busy, which didn’t leave the best impression.
Atmosphere: We sat outside on a charming little side street, which offered a pleasant and...
