Been to Athens, Hydra, and now Nafplio. Still need to go to Delphi, Meteora. So far the best meal I've had is here.
Came on a Sunday evening (7:30). Seemed to be the busiest spot in that general area by the water.
Been on the hunt for delicious seafood (namely fish, octopus, and squid) and the fried calamari here was phenomenal. Easily would come back for just this and a glass of wine. Fried, but perfectly cooked so that the meat is tender and not too chewy. Need to get this as an appetizer.
The fish soup came out a bit cold, but was good. Tasted like a chicken noodle (no surprise since it's made with celery, carrots, and onions), but a bit oily compared to other places we've had. Possibly cause this one didn't contain potatoes so less stew-y.
Manager did upsell us from the steamed mussels to the razor clams. Sauce (white wine, garlic etc) was a bit salty for my taste, but overall great with the bread. I'd probably just go with the mussels next time.
Grilled fish was delicious. Opted for the smallest option out of 3 which was the sea bass. Comes out deboned (to their best extent, you will still find some bones), with an option of either lemon or olive oil. I found the olive oil unnecessary.
Who I presume was the manager or in charge of the front of the house greeted us warmly when we stopped by early and took our reservation for later in the evening.
While ordering, he took me to view and select which fish I wanted grilled.
Bill came out a bit more expensive than anticipated, I think around $129, but when offered to pay in euros, the waiter took 155 and called it square. Was an odd, yet pleasant experience.
Flan as dessert was on the house.
Keeping in mind the pace of service in Greece and in general at a busy restaurant, I'd say their staff provided great service. They had 4 gentlemen doing rounds every so often and...
Read moreSo we had just set foot in Nafplio and decided to visit this nice-looking port facing restaurant, but were sorely disappointed with the food and the overall experience of feeling cheated. The food was over priced and we wouldn't have grudged it, but they slyly ensured we paid a lot more for our lunch. Unlike other restaurants that charge for bread always ask before keeping it on the table, here they simply kept it only to charge for it in the bill later. We ordered one glass of wine and showed it on the menu while placing the order, but we were served twice the quantity and again charged double for it. We requested for potatoes instead of grilled veggies on the side of the fish we ordered, but they served an entire big portion of it - of course charging us for a proper portion. We concluded this was a tourist trap. Given its location, it draws a lot of people but it didn't offer us the experience that other restaurants did during our stay in Greece where they checked before keeping things on the table and certainly treated us to much better food that they served with great honesty. Please avoid this place, and instead walk the streets of old town of Nafplio and try other lovely places such as Aiolos Tavern.
P.S. I would like to reply to the "response from the owner" here. We are 100% sure that our experience was with ΜΠΟΥΝΟΣ -ΨΑΡΟΣΑΒΟΥΡΑΣ. We have verified the same. We had taken various pictures of your restaurant, sign boards and menu cards to ratify. Also, like we said in our review, we were asked at all the places we ate at in Greece, if we wanted bread. It wasn't kept on the table without informing like it was done at your restaurant. I hope you understand that we are talking about an unpleasant experience and not about a couple of Euros that we spent...
Read moreFood: tasty but hideous price/food. Service: served others before! Not professional! So, sounds like a brought some 5* reviews. Atmosphere: Not at all naturustic and peaceful for what Greece is known for. It was literally too chaotic like Istanbul.
Here is what happened: You provide a menu that says calamari 11.50€, with a cute little F star next to it. What does that mean? Fresh? Fantastic? Fraud? Apparently, it means 25€ for fresh calamari(calamari was tasty!) ok, but where exactly is that written? Newsflash for people: I’m not skilled in reading your minds yet.
To me, that’s not being clever — that’s cheating and scamming tourists, plain and simple. If you were honest, you would write 25€/dish directly on the menu(without french fries). Clear and Transparent. But no — you prefer hiding behind tiny print, or worse, behind your own inflated sense of smartness.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the kind of Greek honesty I’ll be talking about on every dinner table in my international setup - Thanks for this great honest hospitality
Ladies and Gents,...
