Palio Archontiko — Restaurant in Municipality of Nafplio

We walked around Nafplio for a while, trying to decide where to get lunch on our first day in town- we turned a corner and saw The Old Mansion Taverna with a couple groups of happy locals chatting and sitting outside at the tables. The vibes made the decision for us- I knew this had to be a good spot and so we got a table for two. We ended up visiting this taverna twice for lunch during our stay in Nafplio and we loved both of our meals here. Their tzatziki was our favorite of all the places we ate at and they seasoned their Horiatiki (Greek salad) very nicely. Our server, Aggelo, was kind and helpful. A cute place but really avoid it. The service wasn’t good which is rare in this country and the food was also not great. Several things weren’t available from the menu. I think for tourists it would have been fine food but as a Greek person it was subpar dining. Even the fries taste pretty bad. Furthermore we were actually asked to pay so they could give the table to another group but not in a gracious manner. There are plenty of other nice tavernas in Nafplio to try.

This is the best Greek experience you can have in the area. As a Greek that values traditional tastes, sounds and hospitality my experience here was amazing. The Kokkinisto and Lemonato beef was amazing tasting. Traditional taste and succulent meat that are very hard to find anywhere in Greece, nowadays. The place was quiet and although there is no music the sounds of clinking plates and laughter all brings to mind a simpler time. The owner and staff was friendly and appreciated the conversation.
