Our visit to Byzantio was not as good as expected.
We ordered a salad, feta cheese with honey, spicy cheese sauce and a mixed grill. The salad was nice, unfortunately it was the only one.
The feta cheese with honey was mediocre, the spicy cheese sauce was anything but spicy and tasted differently and the mixed grill was very disappointing, proportion wise and quality wise. Proportion wise because it was very small, barely enough for two people, quality wise because it was badly cooked.
The chicken breast fillet and the pork steak were overcooked and therefore dry and hard to chew, the sausage was barely grilled and the beef burger was also badly cooked. Needless to say, we hardly ate anything.
The waiter noticed that we barely touched the food when we asked for the check and he asked us if there was anything wrong with the food. When explained to him politely our complaints he didn't even apologize or try to give explanations. He just left and didn't even say goodbye afterwards.
From all the above, I was very disappointed, as a tourist myself, by the service and the food, especially because it has such a high score in the reviews, therefore the expectations were high.
As a native Greek, I wouldn't recommend it to any foreigner tourist who wants to truly experience authentic...
Read moreWe had to wait for around 30 mins to be seated and for this food we would have glady waited for another hour. Easily one of the best-prepared meat dishes we have ever had the pleasure to eat.
First of all: There is no real menu - all the dishes are written on a board and come with fries as side dish.
We ordered lamb (19€) and 'pancetta' (πανσέτα, 9€). Both of which arrived after ~10 minutes. And as written above: this might be the best we've ever had. The lamb is seared amazingly, juicy and crunchy. But secret star of this clearly is the cheapest main dish on the menu, the pancetta. This meat was full of flavor and so tender, it just melted in the mouth. This was heaven.
For 2 people we ordered the 2 mentioned main dishes, one tzatziki, 1l of water and 1/2l of white wine - all together for 40€. That's a 10/10 when it comes to value for money.
Final side note: The service personnel is working at an incredible speed and doing a thousand things at once. Consequently they are not incredibly chatty, but that is for the purpose of giving as many people as possible the opportunity to eat here. I will not deduct a star for that, because the overall experience is so amazing and special, it all works well in...
Read moreFood is decent, though nothing special - don't expect to be amazed - and in the sausage we found a hair band, probably from one of the cooks.
Service however was terrible - waiters make eye contact and quickly look away, as if they are running from the extra work. I had to get up from the table and go inside twice because no waiter would come, even when signalled and you know they saw it.
Many other places with better service and food, don't settle and compromise on this one.
Oh and for the sausage with the hair band, they didn't even offer to waive the price from the bill.
EDIT* Owner keeps responding to bad reviews with "????????" as if he/she do not know what people are talking about. I think an apology is a much better response than a "???????" to a bad review... just shows more unprofessionalism I guess.
