Artemis and Dionysos :) We were here at Mixalios Grill on the last day of the season, and so lucky to experience this tavern before they closed! The goat chops and slow cooked goat in the oven were simply out of this world. I've had a lot of delicious goat meat before, but none comparable to this. We also had a delicious local cheese saganaki, a lovely mixed cabbages salad, scrumptious feta and aubergine in the oven, mouthwatering grilled veggies with home made balsamic vinegar and capers, and home made chips of the famous Naxos potatoes. A note on the goat meat: these goats are raised on the uninhabitable island of Keros, opposite Koufonisi. They live wild year round, and only feed on the greens and brack water of this island. The owners of Mixalios Grill are the sole farmers of these goats, served exclusively at this tavern. Another note: we paired this incredible meal with an exquisite Greek wine, EMPHASIS Syrah 2014, a match by the Greek Gods :) We wish Giannis of Mixalios and his family a well deserved rest after a hectic season, and look very much forward...
Read moreBest meal on Koufonisi! The portions are massive and packed with so much flavor. We ordered green beans, the portion of lamb chops, and the baby goat in garlic, mustard, and lemon sauce. Green beans were nicely flavored and arrived first (considered a salad). The real masterpieces were the mains. The lamb chops were rich and came with a mound of incredible fries (perfectly seasoned and crispy). The goat was baked, and practically falling off the bone. The flavoring was perfect, and the meat was tender and moist. Accompanied by a side of roast potatoes, smothered in the garlic, mustard, and lemon sauce (best roast potatoes we’ve had). A salad and a main is more than enough food between two people. It can take a while for the food to arrived if it’s particularly busy, which is probably most of the time, so if you are really hungry, get there a bit earlier (8 or earlier). Mixalios is not to be missed on your trip to...
Read moreWe went there as we heard it is one of the best meat in Koufonisi island. Food was Ok but nothing special as it seemed that the personnel was not enough resulting in them being rude. We waited for 40 minutes to get a table and the guy didn't put us in the one that was available for us. He placed us next to the kitchen putting 2 ladies in the front one although we were there first. He said, I will move you and tried to convince us it was our fault. We said yes please move us when you are ready. He never did. They talked to us rudely 3 or 4 times. Even when we asked for the WiFi.. Worst experience we had in this lovely island. I wouldnt recommend it. It doesn't worth being mistreated for...
