Nōma Restaurant Rethymno — Restaurant in Municipality of Rethymnon

I visited this restaurant with my husband and 2 kids. The person out front (looked to be the owner or at least in-charge) offered to have anything on the menu made into a kids portion which was a great option. We wanted a table close to the water but since there wasn’t one available, we were seated at a different one and were promised that we could move when one became available. They upheld this promise and we moved shortly after we sat down, however, they didn’t bring our half full bottle of water to the new table and it disappeared. We asked for it but were told they did not know where it was. They reluctantly offered to bring us another one.

We ordered a Greek salad with no onions and an order of calamari to start. The appetizers took 45 min to arrive and the salad had onions, and the calamari was good but we asked for a slice of lemon twice (this usually comes with calamari) and never received it. One of my kids ordered a child sized portion (as recommended by the ‘boss’) of the seafood linguine. That and the rest of the food was fine, nothing wrong with it but not the best meal we’ve ever had.

When the bill came, we were charged for an adult sized portion of the linguine. They claimed that that was the size they brought (unbeknownst to us as that is not what we ordered) and that we should pay for it. Also, when we ordered the kids portion of linguine, the waiter took the order and confirmed it was fine, which was in line with what we were told by the boss. Our child did not need a meal this size and not only was it a waste of our money, but it was also a waste of food. We did not agree with this so the waiter went to discuss with the ‘boss’ and came back to tell us that we needed to pay since they gave us an extra bottle of water ($2 bottle that retails for 30 cents), and a free dessert. The water was only to replace the one they took from us, and the dessert was not only given to every single table, but was inedible to say the least, and could not have cost them more than 10 cents to make.

The whole place stinks like awful sewage, I to ask for water twice, didn’t get the basket of bread at all, drinks took a very long time to arrive, food was undercooked & unseasoned and took so long that I finished my drink before it arrived. No one came to clear our dishes after we were finished (we sat for 10 minutes & nothing) and when it came time to pay the bill, the waiter asked me verbally if I wanted to leave a tip and didn’t give me the option to make that choice in private. Which made me feel very pressured.

DONT EAT HERE they will con you. They entice us in by offering my friend a fish dish but didn't tell us the price they then tried to charge us £70 for the fish which we refuse to paid it was actually a random price they made up. They provided what they said was complimentary bread and dip as a starter and then at the end of the meal said "who is paying for the bread". They were rude and patronising when we challenge the price of the fish. We ended up paying £30 for the fish. We also had to pay for the apparent free bread. DONT EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT they rip...
