Worst experience I have ever had in any restaurant in the world. My first time in Lindos & have had such a lovely time, & the locals have been so friendly-until tonight. I decided to go to Dionysos restaurant as a bit of a treat. I sat at the rooftop & ordered a Mojito & a Swordfish dish. It was quite windy & a few other tables asked to move downstairs. I began to feel a bit cold, so I asked if I could move as well. I got seated in the bar area inside. I sat for quite a while & my food hadn’t come, I wasn’t too bothered, but then after a good bit longer I said to the waiter that I’d been moved from upstairs & maybe I’d been forgotten. A bit later, a waiter came over & asked what I’d ordered. He left & didn’t come back. Then I asked a waitress if she would mind checking where my food was, as it had been a long time since I’d ordered. My food came 5mins later, & I tasted a bit of the fish and potato which was nice but lukewarm, as if it had been sitting for a while. I discreetly said to the waitress that it was a bit cold and could it be heated up. I got it back 2mins later, but it still felt exactly the same. At this point I didn’t want to ask for it to be heated again, & I quietly said to the waitress that I can’t eat the food because it’s still cold, so I’d just like to pay for my drink & leave. She went off & didn’t return. After 15mins, I went to the cash register to pay for my drink. The assistant manager appeared & printed off my bill, which included the uneaten meal which cost approx €25. I said “I didn’t eat my meal because it was cold, but I’m happy to pay for my drink” Instead of him saying sorry that my meal was cold, he started saying in a cheeky way “Come on tell the truth, you just didn’t like the food” & was insisting I had to pay. I said no, & he said all of their customers love the food, & he knows people try to get free food and drink by complaining. I reminded him that I had left all of the food, so therefore it wasn’t a “free meal” & I offered to pay for my drink. He continued to be cheeky. I asked him his name, & he refused. I then said I would take a photo of him (so I could prove who was speaking to me.) He then forcefully grabbed MY phone from me & held it up high so I couldn’t get it. I asked him to give it back & he still held it up high & he was smirking & saying things to provoke me: I then shouted very loudly for him to give me my phone back or I would get the police involved. I said “you grabbed my phone from me” & the old man behind the till looked at me, & said “you liar” A lot of the other diners were listening at this point, which I was glad of because I felt the staff were now ganging up & intimidating me. The A.M finally gave me my phone back & I paid the €11 for my drink. One of the waiters said to me that I should leave as it was ruining other people’s meals! The AM was trying to get me to go downstairs with him & I refused and told him to get away from me, as when I was shouting & asking for my phone back, he was laughing & saying “oh I love you so much hahaha” clearly seeing I was upset & trying to provoke me. Finally he was persuaded to walk away, & I went downstairs to leave. The Owner (I didn’t get his name) saw me & asked me what had happened, as I was in tears at this point. I explained to him what had happened & he said he was very sorry and could he do anything to make it up. I appreciated the gesture, and he was being kind, but I felt it was too late. I asked him if he would get the AM to apologise to me. He was summoned downstairs, and like a petulant child, he said “sorry if you didn’t like your food” I then said, no I’d like an apology for the way you spoke to me. He then (not genuinely) said “ok sorry”. The manager then gave me back the €11 for my drink, & he offered to make me more food and he would serve me personally. But I said no Thankyou, as I just wanted to leave as quickly as possible. On a positive note, the owner of Acropolis restaurant (lovely Vangelis) saw me and asked me if I was ok. He gave me a glass of wine on the house, &...
Read moreI chose Dionysos as my restaurant of choice for a birthday meal while staying in Lindos. The restaurant came recommended, and the impression I got was that it would be suitable for a more special occasion meal versus some of its fellow rooftop neighbours. I booked a few days ahead of time and included a little note to mention the booking was for a birthday. When we arrived we were greeted relatively swiftly - I would say this cool and low touch approach remained in place throughout the service. The front of house team were fine, not rude, but fairly detached and the service style was probably a little too hands off for my taste. (We also had some forgotten about wine that didn’t arrive until the main course). The tables are arranged close together, similar to other rooftop restaurants, so you can more or less hear the conversations of everyone else at the restaurant. At times the overly loud music drowned this out, though. While the service wasn’t winning any awards, unfortunately neither was the food. We ordered the tuna tartare, octopus, and the rest has slipped my mind which says it all. The food wasn’t necessarily bad as much as it arrived entirely differently to how it was described on the menu. The octopus was served atop some type of daal, and the tuna tartare was flavoured with Thai style lime and lemongrass. Unfortunately none of these ingredients were mentioned on the menu and none of the dishes went well together. It seems Dionysos is suffering from the desire to create fusion cuisine although what it’s fusing is not entirely clear. Unfortunately I would not recommend dining here, especially not for a special meal. It’s worth seeking out other restaurants in the area as we did manage to find a few that successfully delivered tasty, fresh and local cuisine, as well as good...
Read moreI’ll start by saying the food was excellent, and even so - we still had a bad experience. First, I have to mention most tables (like ours) don’t even have a view to the city and it’s veryyyy hot. But what was so bad? Well, the service horrible. We had to wait for an hour (literally, 60 minutes!!! We took a picture so we know) between our first to main dishes. After waiting over 30 minutes, we had to ask what’s going on, and instead of checking and apologizing the servers “nicely” (but very obviously disrespectfully) told us it takes time because they make everything on the spot. As if this isn’t like that in almost every restaurant. After 45 minutes and a few rude attitude from different servers, we asked for the manager/owner. Like 3 times. Every time he was “on his way” (lol like the food). We felt like prisoners of the place but were too hungry to leave and they kept telling us the food is about to arrive. When the food finally came (like in 20:50, when we sat down at 19:15 and ordered 19:30!), it was delicious. But we couldn’t help but still feeling angry. After we finished eating, a server came with a dessert on the house and again, told us the times the food took (which was not in argue) as if this is normal times to wait for food. He said the owner is downstairs busy and couldn’t come. What could you really expect of servers in their restaurant if the owner himself wouldn’t come talk to unsatisfied costumers? Left the place feeling like suckers. For that, even tho the food was delicious, I wouldn’t recommend it. And to the restaurant - you make great food, please treat your guests with respect. If the food is late tell them you’re sorry, you had a delay, don’t...
