To start with, I would reward the food (we had) and services in this restaurant 3 (*), however my overall rating is a single star only - details to follow.
We had a dinner the other day in this restaurant in hope of having fresh fish by the sea before we leave for home. The restaurant is comfortable and spacious, nothing outstanding though, a decent place.
Service was quick, we ordered branzino (sea bass), that was quickly served. I have had sea bass by the sea a couple of times before, but never seen it served like this: rolled up with a cherry tomato in the middle. Whenever I had this, the fish was served flat on the plate with the white, fresh meat upwards sprinkled with olive oil.
The fish was fresh, tasted OK, but it was not more than that. We expected a flavor with a bit more character, though. We paid 82 EUR for the dishes, one small beer and a cocktail included, which in my opinion is way too overpriced for such portions and quality.
REASON FOR MY DOWNGRADE
After we went home I started to read some of the reviews of this place and I was astonished at the attitude of the owner of the place. If you read the owner's reply to critical reviews like Mr. M's or Panos Koukounas' you will meet one of the most arrogant, hostile and shameful attitude a restaurant owner could ever have.
As a restaurant owner, you should accept the fact that not all customers will like your place or the service, they come here for something they may not get. The best and the smartest thing to do is to try to learn from all the feedback you receive for free, even from the ones you do not find grounded. When we entered the place, we did not see any stars (Michelin) displayed which means there's still much to learn for you.
Being cocky and superior to people whose money you live by is the least professional behavior a restaurant owner can demonstrate. Shame on you, sir.
I hope hundreds and thousands of tourist will read this before they decide where else to spend their money.
If you want your money well spent and support restaurants where the owner is humble and respects customers - go and find...
Read moreTo respond to the owner with the address of the place we visited is correct: Danezi M, Thira 847 00, Greece. It is an Italian restaurant.
We visited this restaurant a few months ago and were ignored by the staff when we first walked in. After finally being seated, we waited for 20 minutes without any acknowledgment, despite the restaurant being nearly empty at 8 PM.
When someone eventually attended to us, we were shocked to learn about a minimum Euro amount requirement that was about $50 per person, which is apparently mentioned in tiny font on the menu, but not on the external menu they have posted outside their restaurant. This deceitful practice certainly feels like a tourist trap.
Throughout our stay in Santorini, we noticed this restaurant was consistently empty at all times. The staff’s unfriendly demeanor and lack of customer service undoubtedly play a significant role in this. They couldn’t even muster a smile. We chose to leave instead of overpaying for what we heard from the 2 nearby diners was subpar, over-priced Italian food. The staff was also rude to us on our way out, despite us being polite.
I definitely do not recommend visiting this place. The manager’s hostile responses to negative reviews are also indicative of the poor service you can expect here. In all likelihood, he will probably respond to this review in the same manner (and what we’ve seen on TripAdvisor too). Save yourself the trouble and find a more welcoming and honest...
Read moreMy daughter ordered chicken with ROAST POTATOES but got mash. When EVENTUALLY asked if we were happy with the meal, I said that she wanted roast potatoes as it states on the menu outside the restaurant, saying it was her birthday and she chose the restaurant based on what she wanted. He then, rudely said that there was "no need to tell me it was her birthday" but admitted that they had made a mistake, and asked if she would like roast potatoes. She agreed, and they bought her a bowl of boiled potatoes (after she had finished her meal). I asked for no egg with the carbonara (assuming it could be the raw egg on top) but the waiter said that wasn't possible as its all mixed in - surely with a pasta dish it is made to order??? The carbonara came and was tasteless, and the pasta was not just 'al dente' but hard.
Sadly, a less than positive experience but gladly this is the ONLY place in 6 days in Santorini where we have experienced this rude attitude and bad food.
Please do not bother spending your money here - overpriced, poor quality and appalling service.
As an addition - PLEASE look at the Google reviews (sadly, we didn't) as the negative reviews are met with judgemental rudeness, and discriminatory comments by the owner. This should...
